Trainer Emma Lavelle has exclusively told SportsBoom that ‘My Silver Lining’ will be campaigned towards the Welsh Grand National despite a disappointing seasonal re-appearance at Wincanton.

The eight-year-old has won four races over fences from 15 starts, with notable victories in the Challenger Series Mares’ Chase Final Handicap at Cheltenham and the Wigley Group Classic Premier Handicap at Warwick, picking up £83,114 in the process.

She started last week back at Wincanton, and she was never travelling before pulling up. There are a few options of where we will go next, but The Welsh National will be her long-term goal.

Seemingly capable on all types of ground, she showed a liking to marathon trips at the end of the last campaign and was seen to good effect at Haydock and Uttoxeter.

She is upwardly mobile and ran with credit in the Scottish Grand National last season, where she finished a respectable eleventh.

Last season was a consistent campaign Lavelle’s mare, so it was surprising to see her tailed off at Wincanton last week on seasonal debut.

She will need to bounce back if she is to enjoy a similarly fruitful campaign.

‘Hang In There’ Away for the Winter

Elsewhere, Lavelle provided updates on a few horses who we are yet to see this campaign and confirmed that stable star Hang In There is now likely to be put away for the Winter.

“Hang In There is going to struggle with the softer ground. We were debating taking the plunge in the Charlie Hall and we did because the ground was quick enough. He’ll now have a Winter holiday and come back next spring,” Lavelle added.

General Medrano has had a wind op, he is probably a couple weeks off running, so I am yet to make a plan of where we will go with him, but we’ll go over fences, probably start him over two miles and then step up to two and a half.

“Doughmore Bay will go novice chasing and Light N Strike has only just come back in, so there are no plans for him.”

“Red Rookie has an option at the mid-November, and I think it is at Chepstow. He’s been very good for us.”

“Tightenourbelts will go back chasing now, it was a lovely run last month over hurdles just to get him back after a break. I’m looking forward to him heading back over fences,” she concluded.
