Pat Brown, the former GB Olympian, is destined to become the next ‘People’s Champion’ of British boxing.

That is the verdict of leading trainer Jamie Moore, who has been handed the task of preparing the 25-year-old for his eagerly anticipated professional debut next month.

Having worked with some of the biggest names in the business, including Carl Frampton, Jack Catterall and Chantelle Cameron, Moore believes his latest charge possesses all the attributes required to become a major force in the cruiserweight division.

But the Mancunian is even more excited by what he describes as Brown’s “amazing” public appeal after watching him attract hundreds of fans to a recent event in the city designed to announce his entry into the paid ranks.

“He’ll resonate with so many different people,” Moore, speaking exclusively to SportsBoom.com, insisted.

“Not just people from Manchester and around here in this part of the world, I’m talking about people who live on council estates in the Midlands and in London too."

“People need to look at you and relate to you. See you chasing your dreams in the same way they do, putting in the hard graft and being down to earth. That’s what they see in Pat."

“When you’ve got that, as well as the ability of course which he has, then that’s when you’ve got the kind of fighter who can sell an arena out.”

HEARN OF APPROVAL

So convinced is Brown’s promoter Eddie Hearn in his latest acquisition’s star potential, the Matchroom supremo has made his meeting against Vladimir Reznicek the headline bout on March 28th’s show at Planet Ice, Altrincham.

Despite falling at the first hurdle during last summer’s games in Paris, Brown remains a hugely popular figure in the North-West - as evidenced by the huge following he attracted to an ‘Evening With’ event at Halles St Peters 13 weeks ago.

Tickets for Brown’s clash with Reznicek, a veteran Czech, are set to sell-out with the likes of Will Crolla, Cameron Vuong and Rhiannon Dixon also featuring on the bill.

“There are so many different attributes that make a good fighter who is also really appealing,” Moore continued. “People like aggressive, come forward fighters."

“But that’s not enough on its own, because to go far you’ve also got to be technically astute."

"Pat ticks all of the boxes in those areas because he’s well-schooled and has got good fundamentals. He’s a good body puncher and likes having a tear-up."

“He’s a big Manchester United fan too, which is always a bonus.”

Brown, a former two time regional champion, was granted membership of Great Britain’s podium squad after being crowned English National Amateur heavyweight champion under the stewardship of Moss Side Boxing Club guru Nigel Travis.

A close associate of Moore, he will continue to work with Brown, who hails from Sale, following his agreement with Hearn.

“Pat has got a massive amount of experience from GB but he’s also turning professional young enough, before some of what we’d call some of the bad amateur habits are ingrained in him,” Moore said.

“Punching each other in the face, that’s where the similarities between amateur and professional boxing end.”
