Dewald Brevis: MI Cape Town Beach Cricket Carnival

Young South African talent Dewald Brevis, often compared to Proteas legend AB de Villiers and nicknamed "Baby AB," remains positive despite recent setbacks, including not being picked for the national team or the Mumbai Indians in this year's IPL.

IPL Snub

Brevis went unsold at the 2024 IPL auction following an underwhelming season with the Mumbai Indians. However, the 20-year-old is taking the experience in stride.

"It's one of those things, but it worked out exactly as it should. I'm excited for what lies ahead. Sometimes, these things happen for a reason."

When asked about his IPL omission, Brevis showed his maturity, brushing aside repeated questions with humor.
"I feel like the question is a bit stupid; I've already answered it a few times."

Batting in the Middle Order

Known for his explosive top-order performances, Brevis has been utilized in the middle order for MI Cape Town this season. Commentators Vernon Philander and Shaun Pollock have questioned this tactical move.

"It’s new for me, but it’s all about doing what’s best for the team. I see it as a valuable learning experience, and it’s exciting to embrace the challenge. Wherever the team needs me, I’ll give my best."

Despite the change in role, Brevis remains focused on enjoying the game.

"I just want to go out there and enjoy the moment."

Chasing Multi-Format Ambitions

While Brevis made his name in T20 cricket, he has openly expressed his ambition to succeed in all formats of the game, including Test cricket.

"I absolutely want to play all three formats. I see myself as a multi-format player, and I’m chasing success in Tests, ODIs, and T20s. That’s my ultimate goal, and I can’t wait for the future."

Season Expectations

Brevis is determined to use this season as a platform to return to the Proteas setup and the IPL.

"My goal is to do my best and focus on enjoying my cricket. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes that people don’t know about, but for me, it’s about being in the moment, watching the ball, and executing my plans."

Excitement for MI Cape Town vs. Joburg Super Kings

Brevis is eagerly anticipating MI Cape Town's clash against the unbeaten Joburg Super Kings at Newlands this saturday.

"It's going to be a massive home game for us. The rivalry between MI and CSK in the IPL has always been big, and it’s great to bring that excitement here. I’m thrilled for the packed crowd and can’t wait for the game."
