White-ball cricket, especially one-day internationals, has grown in leaps and bounds. The advent of T20 cricket has brought a massive change in how the 50-over game is being played. While going after the bowlers right from the ball 1 is a need in T20 cricket, the same practice has been used by the batters even in ODI cricket now.

The fact that the competition is extremely high has made teams think that they need to maximize all the overs and get as many runs as possible. This is because, in today’s cricket, no score is safe and hence batters put their milestones aside and give their all for the team. Even the 300+ totals, which used to be match-winning scores, runs are unsafe these days, which speaks volumes about how the game has changed. Over the years, ODI cricket has seen a lot of games where teams have put big totals on the board and we take a look at the top 10 of them:

England's cricket team holds the record for the highest score in one-day international cricket. The 2019 World Champions achieved the feat during the game against Netherlands in Amstelveen in 2022. At the top, it was Dawid Malan (125 runs off 109 balls) and Phil Salt (122 runs off 93 balls) slammed brutal centuries. But the real show came from the bat for skipper Jos Buttler. The keeper-batter scored 162 runs off just 70 balls and based on his strong finish, England posted a gigantic total of 498/4, which is still the highest by any team in ODIs. They went on to win the game by a massive margin of 232 runs.

Before scoring 498 against the Netherlands, it was England only who held the record for the highest score in one-day international cricket. They slammed 481/6 for six against arch-rivals Australia during a game in Nottingham in 2018. England started pretty solid with the bat as Alex Hales (147 off 92) and Johnny Bairstow (139 off 92) made the Australian bowlers look clueless. They set the tone for the team before it was Eoin Morgan, who hit a whirlwind 30-ball 67, that took England to 481 runs. They then went on to win the game by 242 runs, which was Australia’s biggest defeat.
