The 2024 Indian Premier League, also known as IPL 17 and branded as TATA IPL 2024, marks the 17th edition of this esteemed franchise Twenty20 cricket league in India. Organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), this tournament encompasses ten teams vying in 74 matches scheduled from 22nd March to 26th May 2024. It is being hosted across 13 cities within India, with Chennai designated for both the opening ceremony and the final match. The Chennai Super Kings enter this season as the defending champions, having clinched their fifth title in the previous season by triumphing over the Gujarat Titans.
The tournament format for the 2024 Indian Premier League has reverted to that of 2022, with adjustments made to the group order compared to 2023. Each participating team is scheduled to play two matches against teams within their group and one match against each team in the corresponding row of the other group, resulting in a total of 14 matches per team during the group stage. Following this stage, the top four teams based on accumulated points will progress to the playoffs.
During the playoffs, the top two teams face off in a match known as "Qualifier 1," while the remaining two teams compete in the "EliMumbai Indiansnator" match. The winner of Qualifier 1 secures a direct spot in the final match, while the losing team gets another opportunity to reach the final by playing against the winner of the EliMumbai Indiansnator in "Qualifier 2." The victor of Qualifier 2 then advances to the final match.
Ultimately, the team emerging victorious in the final match will be crowned as the champions of the Indian Premier League for the 2024 season.

On February 21, 2024, the first announcement was made regarding the schedule for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Due to the uncertainty surrounding the dates of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 at that time, the schedule was divided into two parts. The initial segment, comprising the fixtures for the first 17 days and encompassing 21 matches, was revealed on February 22, 2024.
The tournament was set to commence with the opening match on March 22 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. This match featured the defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Subsequently, the remaining fixtures were disclosed on March 25, outlining the schedule up to the last group match between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders on May 19 at ACA Stadium in Guwahati.
Further details included the venues for key playoff matches. It was announced that both the Qualifier 1 and the EliMumbai Indiansnator matches would take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from May 21 to May 22. Additionally, the Qualifier 2 and the final were designated to be held in Chennai. Notably, Chennai would host its third IPL final, having previously done so in 2011 and 2012.
