Green was among the most sought-after players at the 2023 IPL auction. In the three T20 Internationals he played in India before the auction, he batted at a strike rate of over 200 as an opening batsman.

On his IPL debut, however, Green failed to impress. He was out for only five runs in Mumbai Indians’ season opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore, a team that he will be representing in IPL 2024. Green lasted only four balls before being removed by a yorker from Reece Topley.

However, he went on to impress in the subsequent matches. For the Mumbai Indians, Green scored 452 runs in 16 innings last season including a century. He also picked up six wickets.
Green's best performance came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 69th match. Mumbai were chasing 201 to win at the Wankhede Stadium when Green scored a 47-ball unbeaten century at a strike rate of over 212. His knock was laced with eight boundaries and as many maximums. Among his other impressive knocks were back-to-back fifties against the Sunrisers and Punjab Kings, and a 26-ball 44 in a chase against Rajasthan Royals.

Despite a stellar season with the Mumbai Indians, Green was traded by the franchise to Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL 2024 auction held in December.

To attain Green's services, RCB paid Rs 17.5 crore to Mumbai Indians, which is the same price at which the Ambani-owned franchise bought the player in 2023.

"We have got a strong core of retaining players, and we have got a very powerful top order. Part of the decision-making that we had around our player release decisions was to try and strengthen the middle order and bringing Cameron Green was a fantastic move."

RCB Director Mo Babat said during RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet

Cameron Green's international career

Cameron Green's cricketing journey began with grade cricket. At just 17 years old, he made a memorable debut on the domestic scene by claiming a remarkable 5-wicket haul against Tasmania for Western Australia. This earned him the distinction of being the youngest bowler ever to accomplish such a feat in Sheffield Shield cricket history. Green continued to impress in his debut season, claiming a total of 30 wickets.

But his breakout performance in domestic cricket came in 2019, when he scored unbeaten knocks of 87 and 121 while batting at No.8 and 9 respectively, during a match against Queensland. This led to him being promoted up the batting order.

Green's stellar performances in the domestic circuit paved the way for his debut with the Australian national team during the 2020 tour to India. In December 2020, he made his debut in both ODIs and Test matches. The following year, Green earned his T20 International debut, soon after which he was selected as a replacement for the injured Josh Inglis in Australia's squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Green was also a part of Australia's 2023 ODI World Cup winning team

In March 2021, Green achieved a significant milestone in his career by scoring his maiden double-century in first-class cricket, amassing an impressive 251 runs for Western Australia against Queensland during the 2020–21 Sheffield Shield season. Then, in August 2022, he stole the show with the ball by claiming his first ODI five-wicket haul against Zimbabwe in Townsville. He was also named player of the match in the ODI against New Zealand in Cairns, where he made an unbeaten 89 runs in a challenging run chase. During the T20I series against India, Green continued to impress with two half-centuries to his name.

In December 2022, Green secured his maiden five-wicket haul during the first innings of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This further solidified his position as a key player in the Australian cricket team.

In 28 Test matches so far, the all-rounder has scored 1377 runs and taken 35 wickets. In the 50-over format, Green has scored 552 runs in 22 matches at an average of 39.42, while also picking up 18 wickets. In the game's shortest format, the 24-year-old has scored 139 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 173.75, and picked up five wickets. Green also plays in the Big Bash League (BBL) for Perth Scorchers.

With his powerful batting and fierce fast bowling, Green will look to make a big impact for RCB in IPL 2024.
