Ahead of her participation in the 2024 Women’s World Matchplay, Fallon Sherrock, renowned as the ‘Queen of the Palace,’ took a moment to reflect on her journey and offered sage advice to teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler.

In a pre-tournament interview, Sherrock drew parallels between her rapid rise to fame in 2019 and Littler's current status, urging him to remain focused and not let the pressures of fame affect his game.

Sherrock’s Famous Ally Pally Run

Sherrock, who made history by becoming the first woman to win a match at the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace, emphasised the importance of maintaining concentration despite the inevitable distractions that come with sudden popularity.

Her victories over Ted Evetts and former major winner Mensur Suljovic not only secured her a place in darts history but also thrust her into the media spotlight, a situation Littler now finds himself navigating.

The Dangers of Fame and Social Media

“I see the similarities with the social media side and the publicity side to it. The only thing that is probably different is he's still got the game, whereas I kind of lost my game a little bit,” Sherrock told SportsBoom.com.

Reflecting on her own experience, she noted how the whirlwind of fame impacted her performance. “I got caught up with everything, whereas I think he's got his eye on the prize. I hope he doesn’t take social media to heart and just ignores it.”

Littler’s Potential

Sherrock's concern for Littler comes from a place of experience. She acknowledged that the young star has shown remarkable resilience and focus, qualities she believes will only strengthen over time.

“Every loss is going to make him more determined each time and I think he's just going to be one of them calibre of players that just keeps getting better and better and better with every defeat that he gets,” she remarked, highlighting Littler’s potential to continually improve.

A Clear Statement: Avoid Complacency

However, her primary message to Littler was clear and unequivocal: “Just don't get complacent.”

Sherrock’s journey serves as a poignant reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in the world of sports, and her advice is grounded in a desire to see Littler succeed where she faced challenges.

Eyes on the 2024 Women’s World Matchplay

As Sherrock prepares to enter the 2024 Women’s World Matchplay for the third time, she aims to reclaim the title she won in 2022. Her upcoming matches will see her facing off against the best in the sport, including women’s world number one, Beau Greaves, who defeated her in the previous year’s tournament.

Despite the competitive field, Sherrock remains focused and determined, channelling her experiences into her game.
