Former UK Open champion Danny Noppert has spent much of his career in the shadows despite accumulating multiple titles along the way.

Even in 2022, when he won his first ranking major, he was not seriously considered for the prestigious Premier League lineup, despite reaching as high as world number seven in the PDC’s order of merit.

Now, in the 2025 PDC World Masters, Noppert has once again proven his quality, becoming the first player to book a quarterfinal spot with a commanding 4-0 victory over Irish qualifier William O’Connor.

Under-appreciated and Overlooked

After the match, Noppert was asked whether he feels under-appreciated or overlooked as a player. The Dutchman acknowledged that he has flown under the radar for much of his career but is determined to change that perception.

“I think this is the way I play now at the moment, under the radar, but I want to go above the radar,” Noppert said.

“Sometimes I feel like that, but for me, it’s okay. It’s the way how the media or the people want to see me. It’s not about me.”

Noppert’s quiet and composed demeanour, both on and off the oche, has contributed to his reputation as one of the sport’s more understated figures. His methodical style may not be the most eye-catching, but he remains a highly effective competitor.

“Maybe I’m not the fastest player in the world or the biggest high scorer, but I do my checkouts, and I do everything steady. So yeah, what you say, maybe under the radar, but in the future, not.”

“I’m just a ‘Steady Eddie Noppert’. Sometimes it’s a shame about my game, and sometimes I’m really happy. I want to be at the level at the top, and when I’m at 100% I guarantee I can do it.”

Noppert Away from the Oche

In a rare insight into his personal life, Noppert also revealed that he has been living with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) throughout his career.

While some might assume this condition would be a challenge for a professional darts player, Noppert believes it actually helps him stay focused.

“I have ADHD, so when I’m at home, I’m more hyper than when I’m at the darts,” he shared.

“I’m not as boring like everyone thinks.”

“Darts is the one thing I don’t struggle with. I have a busy life at home with the children and everything. But when I play darts, I’m a different person. I always manage to stay focused on what I want to do. I think the ADHD helps my regime and helps me stronger at where I want to be,” he told SportsBoom.com.

As Noppert continues his World Masters campaign, he is determined to prove that he belongs among the sport’s elite—and that his days of flying under the radar are numbered.
