PDC World Masters 2025: Luke Humphries Chasing £2million Prize Pot as He Reaches New Heights
Luke Humphries reflects on his PDC World Masters win and eyes the £2million prize money milestone, focusing on titles over headlines as he looks ahead to the UK Open.

World number one Luke Humphries grabbed the spotlight once again by winning the first-ever PDC World Masters, edging past Jonny Clayton 6-5 in a thrilling final at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes.
The victory marked a return to form after a disappointing World Darts Championship campaign, where Humphries was knocked out in the last 16 by Scotland’s Peter Wright.
His triumph in Milton Keynes has not only brought him back into the headlines but also added £100,000 to his PDC order of merit ranking. Humphries now sits just over £1.9million in prize money accumulated over the past two years.
The Road to £2million and the UK Open
Before the World Championships, there had been significant talk surrounding Humphries' goal to become the first player to hit £2million in prize money over two seasons.
Despite his early exit from the World Championship, he remains on course to reach the landmark, with one final opportunity to do so at the UK Open later this month. When asked about the milestone, Humphries jokingly suggested that he better win the tournament to secure the historic achievement.
“I better win the UK Open now hadn’t I,” Humphries told SportsBoom.com.
While the £2million milestone isn't at the top of his to-do list, Humphries admitted it would be a special achievement, acknowledging that as prize money in darts continues to rise, hitting the £2million mark will soon be commonplace. However, he would love to be the first to do so.
“It obviously would be really nice to do that.”
“It’s not like a goal that you’re looking at and thinking I need to do that. The prize money in the world of darts is just going to go up and up over the next few years.”
“Soon it will be a common thing, so someone is going to reach £2million whether I do it or not.”
“But I’d like to be the first one to do it.”
Humphries Unfazed by the New World Champion
Shifting focus to his World Championship campaign, we discussed the current social media landscape and its tendency to quickly shift attention to new champions, like Luke Littler, often overshadowing past winners.
Humphries, ever humble, made it clear that such matters don’t bother him in the slightest.
“I mean his name is always going to be in the headlines, because he [Luke Littler] is absolutely incredible. So, for me, it doesn't bother me.”
“I say it so many times and I'm not going to keep saying it, but yeah, it doesn't bother me.”
“My name has always been great in the headlines. I don't think I've not got the respect. I feel like everyone does put my name on there.”
For Humphries, the only thing that truly matters is winning titles. He cares little for the attention, focusing instead on ensuring that his time away from his family is well spent, adding meaning to every victory.
“It's nice obviously to put up your name in the headlines of course. But for me, I don't care about that. I just care about winning major titles, and when I'm away from my family, I'll make it worth it while.”
“It's a fantastic win and that is what means the most, more than being in headlines.”
