Littler set the stage with a commanding 12-dart break of throw, showcasing his determination from the outset. However, van Gerwen swiftly countered, displaying his prowess with a string of impressive legs to establish a narrow lead.

Despite Littler's resilient efforts to level the playing field, van Gerwen's seasoned expertise became evident as he capitalised on missed opportunities, ultimately securing a hard-fought win. With two crucial missed match darts at double 10 from Littler, van Gerwen seized the moment, clinching the final leg and emerging victorious in Berlin. This triumph not only solidifies van Gerwen's stature as a dominant force in darts but also elevates him to joint second place in the Premier League standings, alongside Littler, with both players trailing behind the current leader, Michael Smith.

Acknowledging the Twist of Fate

Reflecting on the match in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, van Gerwen acknowledged his fortune as the 17-year-old missed two match darts at double 10 to clinch the win, stating, "A lot of times I don't miss triple 20 either, you know what I mean? But sometimes that happens in darts, but to have these high intensity games against Luke Littler, it's always good." Despite the pressure, van Gerwen maintained his composure, delivering a performance that highlighted his skill and experience in the sport.

The Dutch darting maestro continued to express satisfaction with his performance, particularly emphasising his ability to seize crucial moments in the game. "I played really well and especially in the important moments, I was able to keep up the pressure of my opponents," van Gerwen remarked, underlining the significance of his strategic approach to the match.

Precision Under Pressure

One of the defining moments of the encounter came with the Green Machine's precision in hitting crucial doubles under pressure. Deliberating on his last-dart heroics, van Gerwen modestly attributed his success to a combination of factors, commenting, "I don't want to make too many changes to my game because I know I got the ability. It's the pressure, it's the travel, it's the home lifestyle. Everything together has to be right, and I'm working on that."

Focused on the Journey Ahead

Despite his victory, van Gerwen remains focused on the long journey ahead, highlighting the marathon nature of the Premier League. "It's such a long run and it's not a sprint, it's a marathon for everyone. You need to make sure you do everything at your own pace and that's what I'm doing," he commented.

As the dust settles on a memorable night in Berlin, Michael van Gerwen's triumph stands as a testament to his skill, resilience, and unwavering determination in the face of formidable competition. With eyes set firmly on the future, van Gerwen continues to raise the bar, leaving an indelible mark on the world of darts.
