The world of sport is inseparable from emotion, interest and intrigue. What is often forgotten is the role played by those who are able to almost capture the essence of what is happening, package it in such a way so as to ensure that the audience comes along for the ride and add a flavour to moments which will inevitably live long in the memories of sports fans around the world.

We’ve put together a list of some of the greatest commentators in the world of darts.

Here are some of the best darts commentators

Mark Webster – Nicknamed ‘Webby’ and also a plumber

A man who needs no introduction, Mark Webster is a former world darts champion and through his involvement with Sky Sports and ITV, remains relevant on the circuit. Webby – as he is often affectionately known – has endeared many fans with his punditry. His blunt approach is welcomed, and even whilst he doesn’t seem too interested in being seen as humorous or ‘quirky’, he breaks the game down with ease.

Playing career achievements: World Cup Winner, 2007. World Championship, 2008.

See veteran, James Wade, predict Luke Littler’s Downfall!

Rod Studd – The self-proclaimed darts expert and sidekick to Wayne Mardle

A man who started out his career as a journalist, working with rugby league in Leeds, the Racing Post and later Sky Sports for darts, Rod has become known as the man for the big stage. His point of difference is certainly his ability to work on the floor (even if he does have an uncanny affinity for chewing gum), but in Rod Studd you have a commentator who is able to relate to both the hardcore fan and the casual novice.

Glen Durrant – More commonly referred to as ‘Duzza’, he’s the new kid on the block

The latest edition to the Sky Sports team, Glen Durrant, or “Duzza” has been an absolute breath of fresh air for darts fans. A former PDC Premier League winner in 2020, and in many ways a novice to the world of commentary and punditry, his passion and ability to break down so called ‘dry’ or ‘boring’ aspects of the game to a worldwide audience has been unmatched.

Playing career achievements: BDO World Championships, 2017, 2018, 2019. PDC Premier League, 2020. PDC World Matchplay (semifinals), 2019, 2020.

John Part – Otherwise known as ‘Darth Maple’

Part is lauded as a commentator who is able to express their insights without taking themselves too seriously. Often paired with Wayne Mardle on Sky Sports, Part has endeared himself even to a younger audience with his somewhat humorous approach.

Playing career achievements: Three-time World Champion, winning the 1994 Darts Championship on debut!Wayne Mardle – Best known for his iconic reaction to Michael Smith’s 9-darter

Wayne Mardle is another former professional darts player who now serves the circuit as a pundit and commentator. From legendary moments like “I can’t speak, I can’t speak” from that famous night, Mardle captures the attention of fans through with enough comedic value to keep you entertained, passion and enthusiasm to get you onto the edge of your seat all wrapped together with a deep knowledge and love of the game.

Playing career achievements: Dutch Open winner, 2000. World Matchplay finalist, 2003.

Paul Nicholson

Paul Nicholson is another former professional darts player, likely to be best known for his feud with Phil Taylor in 2011. Nicholson defeated Taylor, and supposedly waved goodbye to him at the end of encounter. Naturally Taylor took exception and ensured the next time they met; retribution was inflicted!

Nicknamed ‘The Asset’, Nicholson is a sports commentator and Tv pundit, his energetic and often eccentric approach to darts always come through in his match coverage, and so it is no surprise that he is amongst the fan favourites.
