PDC World Darts Championship 2025: Day Two Evening Results, Gerwyn Price WINS
Day two of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship featured thrilling wins by Robert Owen, Connor Scutt, Leonard Gates, and Gerwyn Price.
The second day of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship continued into the evening with three exciting first-round matchups. The night’s highlight came with former world champion Gerwyn Price, who headlined the only second-round tie of the evening.
Price was joined by his Welsh compatriot Robert Owen, as well as Challenge Tour winner Connor Scutt and Scotland’s Cameron Menzies, all vying for a place in the next stage of the competition.
Niels Zonneveld vs. Robert Owen
The evening’s action began with two-time Development Tour title winner Niels Zonneveld facing former UK Open semi-finalist Robert Owen. Zonneveld, coming off a first-round victory at last year’s tournament against Darren Webster, aimed to build on that success. Meanwhile, Owen was seeking his first-ever win on the Ally Pally stage.
The Dutchman started strongly, delivering a commanding 3-0 whitewash in the opening set and showing signs of dominance early on.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically as Owen roared back into the contest. Despite some heckles from the London crowd, the Welshman found his rhythm, producing a determined comeback to win three sets in a row and claim his maiden victory at the World Championships.
Owen capped off the win in style, nailing a superb 121 checkout to secure his place in the next round, where he will face Germany’s Gabriel Clemens. With his victory sealed, Owen retreated to the players’ lounge to cheer on his compatriot and friend, Gerwyn Price, in the evening’s headline match.
Connor Scutt vs. Ben Robb
Connor Scutt, one of the season’s breakout stars, took to the stage next. Scutt entered the tournament on the back of his 2024 Challenge Tour triumph and a promising debut at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. Opposing him was New Zealand’s Ben Robb, the nation’s sole representative at the event and a consistent performer in the World Series tournaments on home soil.
Scutt delivered a scintillating display, undoubtedly the tournament’s standout performance so far. He became the first player to achieve a ton-plus three-dart average in a match, completely dominating the contest.
The Englishman gave Robb no breathing room, dismantling the Kiwi in straight sets to secure a commanding victory.
Scutt now advances to face one of his close friends and practice partners, Australia’s Damon Heta, in the next round.
Cameron Menzies vs. Leonard Gates
The evening continued with Scotland’s Cameron Menzies, a rising star on the tour, fresh off a Players Championship Pro Tour win in Leicester and a strong run to the Grand Slam quarterfinals. Standing in his way was CDC Pro Tour qualifier Leonard Gates, a recent Grand Slam participant renowned for his dominance on the senior circuit and charismatic stage presence.
From the moment Gates took to the stage with his trademark dance moves, it was clear he was brimming with confidence. The American seized control early, clinching the first set in style with brilliant 138 and 120 checkouts.
Menzies rallied in the second set, showing the grit and determination that have defined his career. However, Gates responded with an explosive display, taking the match by storm.
Cammy's struggles on the big stage became evident in the fourth set, with the emotional Scot reduced to tears as Gates closed in on a career-defining win.
The American sealed victory with a stunning 122 checkout, sparking chants of “USA, USA, USA” from the crowd.
Gates will now advance to face former World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall in the next round.
Gerwyn Price vs. Keane Barry
Day two of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship concluded with former world champion Gerwyn Price taking on Ireland’s rising star Keane Barry. Barry had earned his place in the second round with an impressive victory over Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts the previous day, but he faced a formidable challenge in "The Iceman."
Price entered the match determined to bounce back from a disappointing year by his high standards, having failed to reach a single major televised quarterfinal in 2024. He made an emphatic start, rolling back the years with clinical finishes of 112 and 106 to take the opening set with ease.
While his scoring dipped below a 90-average as the match progressed, Price’s experience and composure proved more than enough to handle the young Irishman. Barry, who struggled to replicate his form from the first round, will be disappointed with his performance.
To the delight of the Welsh fans in attendance, Price secured a commanding 3-0 victory, keeping his tournament hopes alive. With his sights set on a deep run, the win also bolsters his chances of reclaiming a coveted Premier League spot for 2025.
Price will return to action after Christmas, where he will face either Joe Cullen or the winner of the first-round clash between Wessel Nijman and Cameron Carolissen.
