Ani Ozoemena, the Enyimba goalkeeper, is still basking in the glory of Nigeria's qualification for the African Nation Championship (CHAN) scheduled for next February in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.

On Saturday, the shot-stopper played a crucial role in the Super Eagles' 3-1 victory over the Black Galaxies of Ghana in Uyo.

In an exclusive interview with SportsBoom.com, Ani expressed his joy and pride in representing Nigeria. "I never imagined myself wearing the Nigerian jersey in 2024, but I'm grateful for the opportunity," he said. "It's an honour to represent my country, and I'm thrilled to have played a part in our qualification for CHAN."

Nigeria's qualification for CHAN was no easy feat. The team had to overcome a stubborn Ghanaian side that had held them to a barren draw in Accra on Sunday, December 22. However, the Super Eagles bounced back in style, defeating the Black Galaxies 3-1 in Uyo.

Ani attributed Nigeria's success to proper coordination and discipline. "We had good leadership in the team, and it was well coordinated," he said. "The players all saw ourselves as equals, and we challenged ourselves for the same cause."

The goalkeeper also praised the coaching crew for their role in Nigeria's success. "After our first leg, we missed many chances and created several defensive errors, but the coaches corrected us, and we took it humbly," he said. "This sharpened our conviction going into the second leg, and you can see we got a good result."

National Team Experience

Ani's experience with the national team has been invaluable. The goalkeeper has learned from top coaches and players, which has helped him develop his goalkeeping skills.

"The national team is full of top managers with rich experiences," Ani said. "This doesn't mean our clubs don't have them, but it speaks to the diversity of ideas and skills that can help a player grow better."

Ani believes that his experience with the national team will stay with him forever. "National team experience is a long-time memory that will live with any player forever," he said. "It's the kind of experience I would keep and build upon in my football journey."

Going Forward

Ani is confident that his experience with the national team will help him in his club affairs with Enyimba. The Aba-based club has recently struggled, failing to win a match in their last nine games across all competitions.

"I believe that the experience I gained with the national team will help me in my club affairs," Ani said. "I've learned a lot from the coaches and players, and I'm confident that I can bring that experience to Enyimba."

Ani's optimism is infectious, and Enyimba fans will be hoping that their goalkeeper's experience with the national team will rub off on the rest of the team.

As Ani looks to the future, he is aware of the challenges that lie ahead. However, he is confident that he has the skills and experience to overcome them.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to represent Nigeria, and I'm looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead," Ani said. "I'm confident that I can make a positive impact on Enyimba and help the team achieve success."

With his experience with the national team and his confidence in his abilities, Ani Ozoemena is certainly one to watch in the future.
