The 23-year-old defender joins the Swedish second-tier club on a two-year contract following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season with Nigerian side Bendel Insurance.

Anyanwu was introduced to fans at Jämtkraft Arena last Saturday, receiving a warm reception from ÖFK supporters ahead of the club's match against Östers IF.

The young defender had been on trial with Östersunds FK for the past three weeks, impressing the coaching staff with his performances. His efforts have made him the club's first signing of the summer transfer window.

Sporting Director Speaks Out

"Sunday has made a very good impression in training and reinforced the image we had of him from before. He is an aggressive and compliant centre-back who is also good in the passing game," said Stefan Lundin, Sporting Director at Östersunds FK.

"It will be very exciting to follow his development when he has had more time to adapt to Sweden and the football here."

Ready for the Jump to Swedish Football

After finalizing his move, Anyanwu expressed his gratitude in an exclusive interview with SportsBoom.com, stating, "I'm grateful for the opportunity. It was not a difficult decision to come here, because they were open from the start and proved they really like me. They have taken me in as one of their own, and I'm proud to be part of the family."

Anyanwu brings with him a solid reputation from his time in the Nigeria Premier Football League, where he established himself as a dominant and reliable centre-back. He made 55 appearances for Bendel Insurance, playing a pivotal role in the club's 2023 Federation Cup victory.

Reflecting on his journey, Anyanwu shared, "Playing in the domestic league in Nigeria is tough, and it prepared me for challenges like this. However, as a footballer, I want to showcase my talent on a larger stage, which is why I made the move to Sweden."

Anyanwu has quickly settled into life in Östersund, forming bonds with his new teammates and adapting to the club's playing style during his trial period. He is eager to prove himself in Europe and develop into one of the continent's top defenders.

A Culture Change in Europe

"Joining OFK is an opportunity for me improve my game and connect with fans from other part of the world. Football is like Music; you need to connect with more audience across the world and become more popular. So, joining the team, is like another platform to start a new journey after good time in Nigeria.

Looking ahead, Anyanwu is optimistic about the club's future and is determined to help Östersunds FK achieve its goals. "It's a tough challenge, but I want to help the club reach its potential, possibly playing in the elite division and winning more trophies. Impossible doesn't exist in football."

As Östersunds FK aims to climb the ranks of Swedish football, Anyanwu's arrival is seen as a significant step in bolstering the team's defensive options and pursuing their ambitious targets.
