Exclusive: Victor Boniface Focused on Leverkusen Amid Transfer Speculations

After a while on the sidelines due to injury, Victor Boniface is back and ready to make an impact for Bayer Leverkusen. The Nigerian forward was in electric form before his setback, and now, as the club pushes for silverware, he returns to the fold at a crucial time. 

In this exclusive interview, Boniface speaks on his recovery process, Leverkusen’s title ambitions, and the swirling transfer rumours linking him to Al Nassr and other top clubs.

A Season That Started With Fire

Before his injury, Boniface was among the standout performers in the Bundesliga. The Nigerian striker at Leverkusen wasted no time proving his worth again. With six goals and one assist in his first 10 league appearances, he remained a fan favourite and a key piece in Xabi Alonso’s attacking setup.  

His movement, strength, and finishing ability has made him a nightmare for defenders, and alongside teammates like Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, Boniface helped fire Leverkusen to the top of the table in the previous season, challenging Bayern Munich’s dominance.  

However, just as things were reaching a boiling point, an untimely injury struck. The Injury in November forced him onto the sidelines, halting his impressive momentum and keeping him out of action for a while.  

The Road to Recovery

Suffering an injury long or short-term is one of the toughest challenges a footballer can face, and for Boniface, the journey back was not easy.  

“Injuries are part of the game, but they are never easy to deal with,” he told SportsBoom.com. 

“For a player, watching from the sidelines when you know you can contribute is frustrating. But I had to stay mentally strong.”

Fortunately, he was not alone.  

“The support from my teammates, coaches, and the medical staff was invaluable. The club ensured I had everything I needed to recover properly. I stayed focused, worked hard in rehab, and took it step by step. Now, I’m just happy to be back.”

Leverkusen’s Title Push: Back in the Fight Again

Despite Boniface’s absence, Bayer Leverkusen refused to slow down. Under Xabi Alonso, they have maintained their place at the top of the Bundesliga only behind Bayern Munich in first place, playing some of the most exciting football in Europe.  

Now, with Boniface fit again, the belief within the squad is even stronger.  

“We have an amazing squad, full of talent and hunger,” he said. “Everyone stepped up while I was away, and that shows the strength of this team. But now that I’m back, I want to help push us even further.”

Leverkusen fans dream of a second Bundesliga title on the bounce, and Boniface knows what it would mean to them after last season's success.

“We have the quality to fight till the end. We just have to stay consistent, stay hungry, and take it one game at a time.

Addressing the Transfer Speculations

Amid his return to full fitness, rumours have emerged linking Boniface with a potential summer move, particularly to Saudi Arabian giants and Cristiano Ronaldo's current abode, Al Nassr. 

Reports suggested that the club was preparing a big-money offer to lure him away. But, have since moved for John Duran of Aston Villa

But when asked about these speculations, the striker remains focused on his present.  

“Transfer rumours are normal in football. It’s always flattering when big clubs show interest, but my focus right now is 100% on Bayer Leverkusen,” he stated firmly.  

“A lot of calculations have also happened here and there, but I love playing here, and I want to give my best to the team. What happens in the future will happen, but for now, my mind is only on helping Leverkusen achieve our goals.”

His response will reassure fans who have come to adore his passion and work rate on the pitch.  

Looking Ahead: Hungry for More

Boniface’s return adds another dimension to Leverkusen’s attack, and he is eager to pick up where he left off.  

“Every match is an opportunity,” he says. “I want to contribute goals, assists, and energy to the team. The fans have been incredible, and I owe it to them and myself to perform at the highest level.”

As the season reaches its decisive stage, Boniface’s presence could be the X-factor in Leverkusen’s push for glory again. 

“I just want to stay fit, keep playing, and keep improving. If I do that, I believe everything else will fall into place.”
