Barcelona vs Real Sociedad Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Venue: Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys  Kickoff Time: 13:15 (UK Time) Real Sociedad will still see themselves as contenders for qualification into the Europa Conference League, and if they are able to come away from this clash with Barcelona with something to show for it – they would take a big step toward that goal. For the hosts, the job is simple. Win the game. They will know that nothing less than that is going to be acceptable and given that at the time of writing, both they and Real Madrid are level on points in La Liga.

Barcelona Current Form – WWWWW

Barcelona have been in incredible form. They have started to tighten their grip on their number 1 league position, and given their current performances, it is difficult to see where or how another side hurts their current foothold.

Granted, one should never count their chickens before they hatch – especially when Real Madrid are hot on their heels. Online football bookmakers are beginning to tip the hosts to run away with it given their next few fixtures, but stranger things have happened in the league.

Key Players to Watch

  • Wojciech Szczesny: The Barcelona back-up keeper has had to step in for the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It is never an easy job to just be dropped into the firing line, but with all of the experience and know-how Szczesny has, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him play a key role once again for his club here.
  • Ronald Araujo: A defensive player who plays with absolute grit and aggressive commitment. He has had to fight for consistent selection into this Barcelona side, but with such a robust approach, he will always endear himself to fans. Furthermore, he is a threat in the air for Barcelona and that only adds to his ability.
  • Pedri: A young player with an experienced eye for passes and runs. His ability to create from nothing, drive his team up the pitch and control the pace and flow of a game is something to be admired. Don’t be surprised to see him play a major role here for the Catalan side.

Barcelona Team News

Andreas Christensen (calf injury), Lamine Yamal (foot injury), Marc Bernal (cruciate ligament injury) and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (knee injury) are all sidelined due to injury.

Real Sociedad Current Form – WWLWW

As we previously mentioned, the visitors will be hoping they can continue on their quest for some sort of European involvement. They haven’t got the best record against Barcelona – let alone when playing away to Barcelona.

They can be a stubborn side to break down and have shown a defensive stability this season. However, when playing away, they have often come unstuck and had to adapt – hence we now have to adapt our betting approach!

Our concern is how they are going to manage to keep Barcelona out.

Key Players to Watch

  • Mikel Oyarzabal: Serving as the team captain for Real Sociedad, the attacking forward has become synonymous with a diverse approach to contributing to his side’s final third involvement. A leader happy to lead from the front – he will no doubt want to register a big performance here.
  • Brais Mendez: A midfielder with a variety of weapons. He has significantly been involved in a lot of what Sociedad has managed to do going forward, but he also has a defensive responsibility and is happy to break down the game when necessary. You can imagine he might be quite busy here.
  • Orri Oskarsson: The center-forward from Iceland has seemingly loved life in Spain. He has found impressive form and has put away crucial goals throughout the season for his club. He is the sort of player who only needs a half chance – don’t be surprised to see him involved yet again.

Real Sociedad Team News

Hamari Traore (knee injury), Jon Pacheco (muscle injury) and Luka Sucic (knee injury) are all unavailable for this encounter.

Predicted Line-Up

  1. Barcelona, 4-2-3-1: Szczesny, Kounde, Cubarsi, Garcia, Balde, Pedri, Casado, Yamal, Lopez, Raphinha, Lewandowski.

  2. Leicester, 4-1-4-1: Remiro, Lopez, Aguerd, Elustondo, Aramburu, Zubimendi, Gomez, Marin, Zakharyan, Kubo, Oskarsson.

Suggested Bets

Our suggested bets and betting angles are listed below.

  1. Barcelona (Win): Look, it isn’t going to get you too many claps on the back at your local, but this is our banker bet for the weekend. Add it to everything. Get on at 2/7 (1.29) with BetWinner

  2. Over 2.5 Goals: These two teams hold players who are capable of finding the back of the net from very little. We think this might be a little more high-scoring than people are giving credit. 13/20 (1.65) with Stake

  3. Barcelona + Over 2.5 Goals: Back the hosts to win the game and combine it with the goalscoring additions for the ultimate value. Get on at 17/20 (1.85) with Betway

Value Bets

  1. Both Teams to Score (Yes): Despite the few injuries Sociedad are carrying, they have players who can score! They have shown it throughout this season, and we think they find the back of the net here. Of course, so do Barcelona. 21/20 (2.1) with Betway

  2. 1st 10min (Barcelona): For the brave punter among us, back Barcelona to get off to a flyer and find a way through within the first 10 minutes of the game. Get on at 38/10 (4.8) with 1xBet

  3. 1st Half Totals (Over 1.5): Based on the above prediction, this is another avenue of value.  5/4 (2.25) with Pinnacle

Prediction: Barcelona

It is our banker for the weekend, and yes, we are being bullish. Barcelona is playing with an incredible confidence at the moment. They have talent all over the pitch and can create attacking moments from anywhere.

Hinge everything this weekend on the Barcelona win.
