CELTA VIGO: CURRENT FORM – LDLLW

Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giraldez is under immense pressure to turn things around at the Estadio Abanca-Balaidos following a dismal spell of results, winless in four matches with three defeats at the hands of Rayo Vallecano (2-1), Athletic Bilbao (1-2), and Valencia (2-1).

This torrid run has left Celta Vigo closer to the relegation zone than the desired European qualification positions on offer. Defensive discipline has been one of the thorns in Celta Vigo’s side this season, unable to control matches after getting themselves on the scoresheet. Perfectly displayed in last week’s defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla whereby Celta Vigo drew level courtesy of Pablo Duran in the second half but went on to concede a mere two minutes later, leaving empty-handed.

Greek striker Anastasios Douvikas has left theSky Blues to sign for Cesc Fabregas’ Como in Serie A in a €13million deal. Meanwhile, Ivorian winger Jonathan Bamba joined MLS club Chicago Fire with Celta Vigo pocketing another €3,5million.

23-year-old striker Iker Losada, who joined Celta Vigo on loan from opponents Real Betis earlier this month made his Os Celestes debut in the defeat to Valencia last weekend.

Fully expected to feature and possibly be named in starting XI for this matchup Losada claimed, "It's going to be a very special match for me; I will definitely have a lot of emotions. Matches like this are pivotal in determining whether you are fighting at the top or bottom of the table."

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Pablo Duran: The 23-year-old forward has scored in consecutive La Liga matches away at Alaves and Valencia, making him the most in-form player despite Celta Vigo going through a rough patch of results.
  • Hugo Sotelo: The young Spaniard is a dynamic midfielder with a fierce combative edge, thriving in defensive duels, disrupting opposition attacks with authority. Yet, beneath the tough exterior lies creativity, elegantly gliding past opponents with quick feet and vision. Threading precise passes and orchestrating play with both power and finesse.
  • Fran Beltran: Filling in the armband as captain for the injured Iago Aspas. Yet being the defensive lynchpin, a rock at the core of Celta Vigo’s midfield alongside Moriba. Beltran’s tactical awareness and ability to read the game needs to be communicated better to his underperforming squad to become an even better captain.

CELTA VIGO TEAM NEWS

Without Swedish centre-back Carl Starfelt and La Masia graduate Ilaix Moriba in midfield, both of whom are serving a one-match suspension after collecting five yellows yards this season, Celta Vigo will be significantly weakened.

Meanwhile, Argentine midfielder Franco Cervi (hamstring injury) joins club captain Iago Aspas (calf injury) on the list of long-term absentees.

REAL BETIS: CURRENT FORM – DWLLD

Real Betis seems to have turned the corner, snapping a three-game winless streak with a pair of decent performances. Gaining maximum points from their victory away at Mallorca (0-1) and settling for a share of the spoils at home to high-flying Athletic Bilbao (taking the field without injured Nico Williams) in a clash where the Green and Whites were probably the better team.

Manuel Pellegrini’s troops have been injury-plagued this season, yet in the big-ticket match against Athletic Bilbao, there was a sense of renewed confidence amongst fans. As the Estadio Benito Villamarin was bouncing from joy with new loan signing Antony getting involved from his first start for Los Verdiblancos, stinging the palms of Spanish number one goalkeeper Unai Simon, which ricocheted into the path of Isco, giving Real Betis after 15 minutes.

Following the final whistle, Pellegrini said, “Well, I think it was a very positive debut. He’s a quality player.” I was talking to him just before the game. I think a good player doesn’t have to be constantly showing off his skills with the ball. He has to play a good game, make few mistakes and do two or three important things: a goal, a good pass, a good cross. I think he was very involved today, especially with the second goal. He had just arrived a couple of days before and I think he’s going to contribute a lot to us.”

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Cedric Bakambu: After coming off the bench to score the winner against Mallorca, Bakambu earned a start against Athletic Bilbao. The veteran striker was unable to score this time around but was instrumental in attack, assisting Romain Perraud for Real Betis’ second goal.
  • Angel Ortiz: Antony might have taken the spotlight, however, without 20-year-old Ortiz continuously overlapping on the right flank to create space to for Antony, the team wouldn’t be as potent. Making his debut at Mallorca and starting his second match vs Athletic Bilbao, the Cantera has produced a promising defender.
  • Giovani Lo Celso: The Argentine midfielder is integral to Real Betis’ plans. Making his return to the Los Verdiblancos midfield for a 25-minute cameo appearance last weekend after spending a month on the sidelines. Being the club’s top goal scorer this season with seven goals in La Liga, Betis are a better team with Lo Celso back in the fray.

REAL BETIS TEAM NEWS

There are a host of players unavailable: Pablo Fornals (muscle injury), Luis Avila (knee injury), Youssouf Sabaly (hamstring), Portuguese international William Carvalho (ruptured Achilles tendon), while Hector Bellerin and club captain Aitor Ruibal (ankle injury) continue their recovery hoping to return within the next few weeks.

Defender Oscar Mingueza is expected to return to the starting XI after serving his one-match suspension.

Meanwhile, Colombian striker Cucho Hernandez was signed in a €13million deal from MLS club Columbus Crew, with the €13million pocketed from the Assane Diao transfer to Como in January.

  3. 1X2 & Both Teams To Score: Real Betis & Yes. This option holds the most value with exciting potential for big rewards. (540/0100 with Betway) (520/100 with Stake) (530/100 with 1Win)

PREDICTION: REAL BETIS TO EDGE OUT A VICTORY

Real Betis looked much-improved in recent matches, aiming to return to their best with an improved squad in the second half of the season. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo find themselves struggling with key players either injured or suspended ahead of this clash. Always fancy Celta Vigo to get on the scoresheet at the Estadio de Balaidos, yet under current circumstances, Real Betis should prove to have too much firepower for the Sky Blues.
