Girona have been a shadow of the team they were when they took the Spanish league by storm. The Blanquivermells are in eighth place after 21 games and have 28 points to their name. After a midweek home defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League, Girona will want to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible. 

Las Palmas, on the other hand, find themselves in a relegation battle. El-Pio-Pio have struggled in LaLiga this season and sit in 15th place, just three points and three places above the relegation zone. The visitors are in need of points to put some breathing space between them and those below.

As mentioned earlier, the home team have been poor compared to last season’s heights. Three losses from their last five is not good reading. It is difficult to juggle the Champions League and league, and with the season entering the business end, head coach Michel Angel Sanchez will demand more from his team to get into the Champions League spots for next season.

Key Players to Watch

  • Christhian Stuani: A wealth of experience, captain Stuani has shown his professionalism to still be in the game at the age of 38 and continues to perform week-in-week-out. 
  • Arnaut Danjuma: The Dutchmen who is on loan from Villarreal is in good form coming into the clash after another goal midweek in the Champions League against Arsenal. The home team will look to the 28-year-old to provide a goal on Monday night. 
  • Donny van de Beek: The Dutchmen struggled in England with Manchester United but has since found his feet in Spain for Girona. He has only featured seven times this season due to injury but his performances in the red and white have been excellent.

Centre-backs Daley Blind and Ladislav Krejci are ruled out along with left-back, Miguel Gutierrez. Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga will also miss the clash. Bryan Gil should return to the side after serving a one-match ban in the midweek Champions League tie at home to the Gunners. 

Las Palmas Current Form – LWWLL

The visitors have just two wins from their previous five and are just above the relegation zone. They are in desperate need of a win to climb up the table. Leganes, Alaves and Espanyol are all within just one victory of dragging them into the relegation zone. The pressure for a victory is on here.

Key Players to Watch

  • Fabio Silva: The 22-year-old forward who is on loan from Premier League outfit Wolves has been one of Las Palmas’ best performers this season. The Portuguese has an impressive eight-goal involvement, six goals and two assists in 16 appearances. 
  • Adnan Januzaj: The former Manchester United starlet is becoming one of the main men for Las Palmas. In eight appearances, the Belgian already has two goals and one assist to his name, including a stoppage-time equaliser to salvage a point against Osasuna last time out. 
  • Jasper Cillissen: The ex-Barcelona shot-stopper has found his feet at the team from the Canary Islands. Cillisen is an experienced goalkeeper that the Las Palmas defence can rely on, and the Dutchmen has three clean sheets this season.

The visitors are without their exciting youngster Marvin Park and central midfielder Jose Campana due to injury while Dario Essugo, on loan from Sporting CP, misses out through suspension. Everyone else in the camp should be fit.
