Girona bounced back from a bad run after securing two wins on the trot over Alaves and Real Valladolid, with four goals scored. Against the former, Girona left it late through a Romero goal in 90+minutes having kept the hosts out for most of the game. 

Despite better ball possession, Alaves was the better team on the day and was unlucky not to get anything from the game. Similarly, Sevilla left it late to secure a point against relegation threatened Valencia. They too, were not the better team on the day, and took that crucial opportunity when it presented itself, to walk away with something from the game.

Girona Current Form – WWLLD

A five-game run with mixed fortunes sees Girona not being able to produce consistent results like what saw them qualify for the Champions League last season. At the time of writing, in that period, coach Michel’s team’s only victories came against sides that were in the bottom half of La Liga and likely to be contesting the relegation scrap towards the end of the season.

They beat Valladolid 3-0 in their last game of 2024 and thrashed Espanyol 4-1 at home but were not on song against Real Madrid who beat them 3-0. Overall, with the Champions League and Copa Del Ray considered, Girona is on a poor run of form but seem to be making amends with their last two games,

  • Solis Romero: Solis came off the bench to net the winner in a tightly contested game for his team and will be looking to continue in similar fashion if the manager gives him a start.
  • Daley Blind: As one of the more senior players in the team and a seasoned campaigner in Europe’s top leagues, Daley Blind will play a prominent role in helping his team continue with the good performances.
  • Bryan Gil: Playing against his former side will give Bryan Gil added impetus and motivation. Based off that, and his pace and dribbling ability, we predict he will be important for Girona.

Bojan Miovski is the only player to likely to be missing, with his expected return only set for later this month. Yaser Asprilla and Cristian Portugues Manzanera will have returned from their respective injuries but will miss out as well owing to match fitness.

Also struggling for form, Sevilla have lost twice, drew twice, and won once in the last five games and we can say those are satisfactory results for them compared to Girona, with higher expectations from their fans, board and all stakeholders. Their overall record away this season in La Liga has been bad, with only one win, and that was a 2-0 win against Espanyol. They lost five times and drew three times away and would need some sort of improvement if they are not to be drawn into the relegation scrap.

  • Kike Salas: Despite being substituted in the 76th minute against Valencia, Kike Salas was another standout performer with good ratings in the game. We predict he will have another good run.
