Following a disappointing loss in a cup final, Real Madrid will be looking to move on swiftly, but the opponents will not be a walkover. Earlier on in the season, Las Palmas nearly upset Real Madrid, having scored in the first five minutes of the game through Alberto Moleiro, only to be saved from their blemishes by Vinicius Junior’s equalizer in the 69th minute.

The circumstances might be different this time around at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the visitors will not succumb easy, noting their recent form, and this is despite their loss against Getafe in their first La Liga game of 2025.

At the time of writing, they have already played three times in 2025. Once in the Copa del Rey and twice in the Spanish Cup. All this, they have done with a rigorous travelling schedule, which has had them in the Middle East for some time at the start of the year.

  • Jude Bellingham: Despite not reaching the heights of last season, the Englishman remains a threat when on song. His ability to drive with the ball will be important in Madrid’s midfield.
  • Kylian Mbappe: Now more than ever and especially after a humiliating loss, Mbappe will have to step up and provide his team with an edge in the absence of Vinicius Junior.
  • Federico Valverde: With a similar playing style to Jude Bellingham’s, Fede Valverde’s driving runs and ability to shoot from a distance will give Las Palmas some problems.

Vinicius Junior will not feature in this game, having to serve some time on the sidelines because of suspension resulting from a red card in their 2-1 win over Valencia. Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal remain out for the rest of the season, nursing long-term injuries.

Despite losing to Getafe 2-1 after putting in a valiant effort, Las Palmas have done well with a run similar to Madrid’s over five games. In their most recent loss, they were unfortunate not to get something out of the game, having had 63% ball possession, seven shots on targets, a missed penalty and fifteen overall goal attempts.

Substitute, Adnan Januzaj made a game out of the contest within minutes of coming on by reducing the goal deficit to one, but his efforts were not enough. Diego Martinez will be looking for a quick turnaround in results for his team, despite not being the favourites.

  • Kirian Rodriguez: Despite not finding the back of the net this season, Rodriguez still contributes to goals, with three assists so far. The potential to score remains nonetheless, and he is one of the players likely to have a good run.
  • Adnan Januzaj: The Belgian’s introduction in the second half loss to Getafe gave his team a much-needed attacking impetus and nearly made a game out of the encounter with his late goal.
