SEVILLA: CURRENT FORM – DDWDL

Sevilla is yet to taste a La Liga defeat in 2025, going unbeaten in four matches after sharing the spoils with Valencia (1-1), Espanyol (1-1), and Getafe (0-0), securing maximum points away at Girona (1-2). This was much-needed for Sevillistas after shockingly being thrown out of the Copa del Rey by second-tier Almeria (4-1).

Manager Garcia Pimienta spent 17 years (various age groups) as a coach at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, before becoming Las Palmas boss for three seasons and taking the over the reins at Sevilla.

Pimienta has struck a perfect balance between attack and defence, especially in defence whereby French defender Loic Bade and Serbian Nemanja Gudelj are a formidable duo in front of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

The midfield trio of Sambi Lokonga, Djibril Sow and Saul Niguez will be particularly difficult for Barcelona to break through. During the January transfer window, Swiss winger Ruben Vargas (Augsburg) and centre-forward Akor Adams (Montpellier) were signed to bolster Belgian winger Dodi Lukebakio in attack.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Dodi Lukebakio: The powerful winger is Sevilla’s top goal scorer with nine goals this season. With more quality players signed to assist Lukebakio in attack, he will become an even bigger goal threat.
  • Ruben Vargas: The Swiss winger has settled well in his first month in La Liga, yet to get on the scoresheet but is perfect to expose Barcelona’s high line of defence, with his pace, skill and trickery. Definitely one to watch out for the remainder of the season.
  • Loic Bade: The 24-year-old Frenchman is a Rolls Royce of a defender, possessing speed, initiating quality build-up plays and aggression in aerial duels. It’s only a matter of time before his talent is wanted by the biggest clubs across Europe.

SEVILLA TEAM NEWS

Centre-back Tanguy Nianzou will likely miss the remainder of the season due to a serious thigh injury, while Jose Angel Carmona will not be available, serving a suspension after tallying his fifth yellow card of the campaign at Getafe.

BARCELONA: CURRENT FORM – WWDLL

Barcelona secured all three points in a crucial must-win match against relegation-threatened Alaves (1-0) last time out to keep their hopes of winning La Liga alive. It wasn’t as easy as the previous game, a massacre of Valencia (7-1), but a mark of champions is getting over the line even on a bad day at the office.

With Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid facing each other on Saturday, this match on Sunday becomes a perfect opportunity for third-placed Barcelona to regain a foothold in the race for La Liga honours, seeing as they’re only four points off the summit.

Following the victory over Alaves, manager Hansi Flick was downplaying the incredible talent displayed by Lamine Yamal inevitably compared to his idol Lionel Messi: "I’m not a fan of that. Lamine is a genius. What he did today in some plays is unbelievable. I’m very happy that he plays for Barca."

Yamal once again prominent in the match, completing 11 of the 21 dribbles, he attempted a number not seen at Barcelona since Messi attempted 20 dribbles against Mallorca (during the 2005-06 season).

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Lamine Yamal: Defenders are probably having nightmares of facing the teenager, with their only method of stopping him being double marking him. Hansi Flick said: "For his age, he’s doing great in every match. It’s not easy, because the opponents are strong, defend well, and attack him aggressively, but he keeps shining. I love it."
  • Pau Cubarsi: Against Valencia, the 18-year-old defender looked like the best defender in the world. Making well-weighted diagonal passes directly into the feet of attackers without never-before-seen control and accuracy. Cubarsi will be a star in the future, it’s only a matter of time.
  • Frenkie de Jong: One of Barcelona’s biggest issues under Flick has been inexperienced midfielder Marc Casado regularly being caught in defensive transitions, unable to defend a bigger area with his teammates committed in attack. Frenkie de Jong is better equipped to play in this role for Blaugrana and will be eager to get minutes under his belt before the massive UEFA Nations League match (Netherlands vs Spain).

BARCELONA TEAM NEWS

Dani Olmo is expected to return after suffering a calf injury. Defender Andreas Christensen is one month away from first-team action, as goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and youngster Marc Bernal are set to miss the remainder of the season with serious knee injuries.

PREDICTED LINE-UPS

  1. Sevilla: 4-3-3

Nyland; Salas, Bade, Gudelj, Pedrosa; Saul, Lakonga, Sow; Lukebakio, Romero, Vargas.

  2. Barcelona: 4-3-3

Szczesny; Kounde, Araujo, Cubarsi, Balde; Gavi, de Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Lewandowski, Raphinha.

  2. 1st Goal – Barcelona: The Catalans have scored the first goal of the match in each of their last six games against Sevilla. Another modest priced bet. (46/100 with Betway) (45/100 with Stake) (45/100 with 1Win)

VALUE BETS

  2. Highest Scoring Half: 2nd Half. Teams tend to hold their own against Barcelona in the first half but tire out during the second half. This logic bet could prove lucrative. (130/100 with Betway) (130/100 with Stake) (130/100 with 1Win)

  3. Barcelona To Win Both Halves: Yes. If you’re seek massive odds, have a punt on Barca winning both halves. (270/100 with Betway) (265/100 with Stake) (265/100 with 1Win)

PREDICTION: BARCELONA TO WIN

Sensing the opportunity to gain ground on both Madrid clubs playing each other on Saturday, this match becomes another must-win clash for Barcelona’s title hopes. Hansi Flick’s team cannot afford to lose this game and there seems very little to no chance that Barca suffer a defeat on Sunday at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
