Chelsea vs Leicester City Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Date: March 9, 2025, Kickoff Time (UK): 14:00 Venue: Stamford Bridge This narrative has been pushed and well documented – but Leicester looks pretty much gone. It’s not so much the fact that they are currently in 19th place, its more so the idea that they aren’t playing very well and don’t look to be finding too much improvement.

Chelsea have blown hot and cold this season, but a Champions League spot is still within their reach. They will need to ensure they keep pressure on Manchester City and Nottingham Forest, while also being mindful of Newcastle, Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham and Aston Villa who are all within just four points of the Blues.

Chelsea Current Form – LWLLW

Chelsea have been horribly inconsistent in the league this season. At times, they have looked flat, and when they have come up against a decent opponent, they have been made to pay the ultimate price.

Enzo Maresca’s side responded well to their defeat against Aston Villa by thumping Southampton 4-0 last time out, but we shouldn’t read too much into that. Southampton have been putrid this season and Chelsea cannot surely be comparing themselves to the Saints.

In fairness, Leicester haven’t been that much better. Playing them at home could be another example of an open goal – and a secure bet for those with a welcome bonus - and Chelsea will be looking to take full advantage here.

Key Players to Watch

  • Cole Palmer: He hasn’t necessarily shot the lights out in recent times, but it is surely only a matter of time before we see him return to the limelight. Having scored 14 goals and contributed by way of six assists for Chelsea already, he is certainly one to watch.
  • Enzo Fernandez: An incredible midfielder indeed! Operating through the middle for Chelsea, he has been heavily involved both with his defensive contributions and his progressive attacking abilities. He will continue to be important for the hosts.
  • Pedro Neto: He has come into this Chelsea team and worked hard at maintaining his place. Enzo Maresca seems to enjoy his versatile movement and given his eye for goal, he could once again prove to be a threat for the Blues here.

Chelsea Team News

The likes of Romeo Lavia (muscle), Nicolas Jackson (thigh), Benoit Badiashile (muscle), Marc Guiu (hamstring), Noni Madueke (thigh) and Trevoh Chalobah (knock) are all injury concerns for the home side, while Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended by the FA after failing a drugs test.

Leicester Current Form – WLLLL

It has been so difficult to make a case for Leicester. There just really isn’t any aspect of the Foxes currently which suggest that they have a chance at survival this season. Their weekly performances are somewhat sporadic, but the inconsistency with which they currently play leaves a lot to be desired.

They have some good players in their squad – many of which aren’t likely to remain at the club once the season comes to an end.

Key Players to Watch

  • Jordan Ayew: He is a player with vast experience in the Premier League, and for the most part has shown this experience for Leicester across their attacking line. His versatility has been welcomed by Ruud van Nistelrooy and he is one of the players they will surely continue to look at.
  • Wout Faes: A central defender who has underpinned the consistency within this Leicester team. His leadership has been well documented, but this is a vital component for an otherwise placid Foxes team.
  • Facundo Buonanotte: He continues to raise eyebrows for all of the right reasons at Leicester City. His ability to link the midfield with their attacking outputs has been crucial for Leicester and if he can continue to fire on all cylinders – the Foxes remain an offensive threat.

Leicester Team News

Abdul Fatawu (knee injury), Harry Souttar (Achilles tendon) and Ricardo Pereira (hamstring injury) are all unavailable.

Predicted Line-Up

  1. Chelsea, 4-2-3-1: Jorgensen, Cucurella, Colwill, Adarabioyo, Gusto, Fernandez, Caicedo, Nkunku, Palmer, Sancho, Neto.

  2. Leicester, 4-2-3-1: Hermansen, Kristiansen, Vestergaard, Faes, Justin, Soumare, Ndidi, Ayew, Khannous, Buonanotte, Vardy.

Suggested Bets

Our suggested bets and betting angles for your online football bets are listed below.

  1. Chelsea to Win + Over 2.5 Goals: Chelsea have been strong, especially at home, and given the defensive instability of their guests – back the Home Win and Over 2.5 Goals. Get on at 5/10 (1.5) with BetWinner

  2. Both Teams to Score (Yes): Leicester may not deserve our trust defensively, but their attacking threat has been undeniable, and they have some attacking threats up front. For that reason, we are backing Both Teams to Score here. 8/10 (1.8) with Stake

  3. Jadon Sancho (Anytime Goal Scorer): He is another confidence player who will no doubt be looking to once again contribute to his side’s attacking threat. A slightly riskier bet given his width, but given the way Chelsea moves forward, we are confident in our selection. 44/10 (5.4) with Betway

Value Bets

  1. Chelsea + Both Teams to Score: Another betting angle worth considering, Chelsea to win and both teams to score is available at 33/10 (4.3) with Betway

  2. Over 8.5 Leicester City Shots: The Foxes are certainly the underdogs, but they average an incredible number of shots per game. We are backing them to find more than 8.5 shots in this encounter. 43/20 (3.65) with 1xBet

  3. Cole Palmer to Score from Outside the Box: Palmer has demonstrated his ability to score from distance on many occasions and for those punters looking for maximum reward, this is an incredible betting angle.  58/10 (6.8) with Pinnacle

Prediction: Chelsea + Over 2.5 Goals

Chelsea is the better side, playing better football at the moment and able to hurt this Leicester side from pretty much anywhere on the pitch. Leicester haven’t given any indication that they will be able to handle the firepower in this Chelsea team and so our Chelsea vs Leicester prediction stands firmly behind the hosts claiming all three points and both teams scoring.
