The Blues welcome rock-bottom Southampton in midweek Premier League action and both teams need points for very different reasons. Enzo Maresca’s side are chasing a Champions League place while Southampton are looking to save some pride from their poor season to date.

The home team ran out 5-1 winners in the reverse fixture back in December so the Saints will need to be on their game come Tuesday night. This could be a feast for football betting fans to get their teeth stuck into!

The Blues have had a few disappointing results over their last five fixtures that have seen them relinquish control over the fourth Champions League place in recent times. Just two wins and three losses will mean Maresca would expect a reaction from his team on Tuesday evening.

Key Players to watch

  • Cole Palmer: Cole Palmer is without a doubt the standout performer at the Bridge. The former Manchester City man has 14 goals and six assists in just 26 Premier League appearances.
  • Pedro Neto: Neto is finally finding his old Wolves form again for the Blues. The Portuguese winger is lightning-quick and has scored some vital goals for Chelsea this season.
  • Moises Caicedo: The Ecuadorian has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season. Shutting down attacks and starting the play, Caicedo has reminded us why Chelsea splashed the cash to bring him to the Bridge.

Chelsea Team News

Wesley Fofana, Nicolas Jackson, and Noni Madueke are all nursing hamstring issues, while Marc Guiu has a leg injury. Romeo Lavia picked up a knock, so he is a doubt, and Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah are also unavailable for the tie with the Saints.

Southampton Current Form – LLWLL

The Saints have really struggled back in the Premier League this season. They did, however, claim their second win this season in their previous five games, though four losses have them still bottom of the league.

Key Players to Watch

  • Mateus Fernandes: Mateus Fernandes has adjusted well to the Premier League. The young 20-year-old has one goal and two assists and looks like an exciting prospect for the Saints.
  • Aaron Ramsdale: The former Arsenal shot-stopper has struggled with a Southampton team that leaks goals. The 26-year-old will have to show his Premier League experience in the run-in till May.
  • Kyle Walker-Peters: The English fullback is versatile and can play on either wing. Walker-Peters also has two assists to his name in the Premier League this season.

Southampton Team News

Ross Stewart has a muscle issue and Ryan Fraser is a doubt due to a knock. Taylor Harwood-Bellis is nursing an ankle problem and Adam Lallana is struggling with a hamstring injury. To add to their woes, Jack Stephens has a calf issue and Juan Larios will also miss the clash against Chelsea.

Predicted Line-Ups: Chelsea vs Southampton

  1. Chelsea (4-3-3): Sanchez, Gusto, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Cucurella, Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Neto, Palmer, Sancho, Nkunku

  2. Southampton (4-2-3-1): Ramsdale, Bree, Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis, Walker-Peters, Ugochukwu, Aribo, Wellington, Fernandes, Gronbaek, Onuachu

Suggested Bets

Looking for value in this matchup? Find the best odds and markets on Premier League betting sites to make the most of these betting options. With Chelsea's attacking strength and Southampton's defensive struggles, there are some strong opportunities to consider.

  1. Over 3.5 Goals: Chelsea have some exciting attackers and the Saints leak goals. There will be goals at the Bridge. (39/50 with Betway)

  2. Chelsea and Over 3.5 Goals: Last time out in the reverse fixture, the Blues ran out 5-1 winners. The home team winning and goals look likely. (47/50 with Stake)

Value Bets

  1. First Half Chelsea Clean Sheet (Yes): The home side has been solid at the Bridge and the visitors have struggled to find the net of late. (21/50 with Betway)

  2. Anytime Goal Scorer – Cole Palmer: Palmer has been excellent this season and could add to his tally of 14 goals on Tuesday night. (29/10 with Betway)

Prediction: Chelsea to Win and Over 3.5 Goals

Maresca will expect a reaction to Chelsea’s slump in form and against a Southampton team that they already put five past earlier this season, it does seem like the writing is on the wall for the visitors here. Back Chelsea to win and score over 3.5 goals at the Bridge on Tuesday night.
