EPL Chelsea vs Wolves Preview: Tips, Odds, and Prediction
With excitement building and anticipation growing ahead of kickoff, Premier League betting fans are already diving into the odds and assessing both teams, hoping to find the best value. For a detailed, in-depth look at the match, be sure to check out our full preview.
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea FC welcomes Vitor Pereira’s Wolverhampton Wanderers to Stamford Bridge on a Monday night, January 20th.
At the time of writing, both teams have lost two of their last six matches, however, it’s Chelsea in the top four that have been on a worse run of form than 17th placed Wolves, remarkably.
Wolves have picked up seven points in their previous four games, compared to Chelsea’s lowly two.
These two clubs are very closely matched in history, with Chelsea winning 45 matches to Wolves’ 43, and 30 games drawn.
In their last game together, there were eight goals scored as Chelsea thrashed Wolves 6-2, and prior to that Wolves won 4-2 in a six-goal thriller. Wolves have won three of their last four Premier League games against each other, so have the upper hand in their recent rivalry.
But what will happen at the Bridge, where Chelsea have the home advantage to boost their weakened form, but Wolves are reinvigorated under their new management, so this is far from a foregone conclusion despite what the lopsided odds suggest.

Chelsea: Current Form – WDLLDD
Chelsea are high up in the last Champions League spot but haven’t had a good run of form over the winter period.
They ended 2024 with a 2-0 loss to relegation candidates Ipswich, and prior to that, they were humbled 2-1 in their West London derby with Fulham.
This week, they drew at home with Bournemouth, giving away a 1-0 lead, only just able to equalise deep into injury time to rescue the point.
However, they are unbeaten in their three games so far this year but will need to buck up their ideas if they aim to play Champions League football next season, recently slipping 10 points adrift of league leaders, Liverpool.
Chelsea fans are all in agreement that they desperately need to strengthen their defence, especially at centre-back.
Key Players To Watch
- Cole Palmer – 22-year-old Cole Palmer scooped up the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year 2023-24 awards. He’s scored 14 Premier League goals this season, putting him third place behind Man City’s Erling Haaland and Liverpool’s Mo Salah.
- Reece James – Captain Reece James salvaged a point for his club in their last game with an equaliser in the 95th minute. The right-back has been at the club since the age of six and this is now his seventh season in the senior squad.
- Nicolas Jackson – Striker Nicolas Jackson has netted nine times in the league so far this season. The 23-year-old plays for Senegal and has played in the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelsea Team News
It’s been reported that Chelsea are expected to offload Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi.
Chelsea have recalled central defender Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, a team they have failed to beat in both games this season.
Wolves: Current Form – WLDWWL
Since Vitor Pereira arrived at Wolves, the new boss has been able to lift the team out of the relegation zone, but only on a goal difference of one single goal.
The Portuguese manager was able to defeat Leicester 3-0 in his first match in charge, then trumped Manchester United 2-0 in his first-ever home game, much to the delight of The Dingles. He even ended the year with another valuable point away to North London giants, Tottenham, securing seven points from an available nine.
They have to play Newcastle away before their Monday night fixture with Chelsea, which is going to be a very difficult mid-week match against a strong team currently unbeaten in their last eight outings.
However, the team are visibly happier since Periera’s arrival and has shown vastly improved performances on the pitch.
Key Players To Watch
- Jorgen Strand Larsen – On loan from Celta Vigo, the 24-year-old Norwegian striker has scored seven Premier League goals in 20 games for Wolves.
- Jose Sa – The experienced Portuguese shotstopper is now the club’s most used goalkeeper of the Premier League era with 121 games.
- Rodrigo Gomes – Portugal’s Gomes joined Wolves in June 2024 for £12.7 million and is thriving under the new management. The 21-year-old bagged his second goal of the season in the FA Cup game with Bristol City last weekend.
Wolves Team News
Nelson Semedo, Craig Dawson and Matheus Cunha will all be available for selection after minor injuries.
Boss Vitor Pereira praised 21-year-old Rodrigo Gomes’ recent performances, describing him as one of the most professional players in the squad.

Prediction: Chelsea to Win
Wolves have a renewed confidence and belief under Vitor Pereira and have done miraculously over their past few games.
Both teams have so much at stake despite occupying opposite ends of the table. Chelsea have to improve if they are to retain their Champions League place and Wolves are fighting for survival.
Despite their recent slump, Chelsea are too strong to continue such a bad run of form and should get back to winning ways against Wolves, especially at home. Wolves will be spritely and energised, so could very likely pop up with a goal.
However, we predict Chelsea to win 2-1.
