At the time of writing, Brentford (11th) are one place above Palace (10th) in the table, however, the lower-placed team’s form has been far better – unbeaten in their last six matches.

These two clubs haven’t met much before, just 45 times in 118 years. Crystal Palace are slightly ahead in this rivalry with 18 wins to Brentford’s 15.

However, when it comes to their Premier League rivalry, they are completely even with just one win each in seven matches, five ending in draws. So, within the last four years, the clubs are incredibly closely matched.

Just over a year ago, last season, Crystal Palace beat Brentford at home 3-1 but were defeated 2-1 by Brentford in their first game of this season.

It’s an intriguing clash, one that would be hard to call if analysing their history – five draws in their last seven games together – but due to their recent form, it’s a very different story with The Eagles likelier to overcome The Bees, which is reflected at the bookies.

But let’s take a further look into this fixture with a detailed preview, including betting odds, latest news and predictions.

Crystal Palace: Current Form – WWWDWD

Flying high, the Eagles haven’t lost in six games. It was second-placed Arsenal who last got the better of Palace a few days before Christmas, smashing them 5-1 at Selhurst Park in the league, having beaten them 3-2 only three days prior to that in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup.

Since Boxing Day, Crystal Palace haven’t lost a game, impressively picking up 11 points from a potential 15, and currently boast three clean sheets in a row.

The Gunners have been the only team able to inflict a defeat on the Eagles in the last 11 Premier League games. Their last loss was way back on November 9th, losing 2-0 at home to Fulham.

Six of their seven losses this season came within their first 11 games, so their 2024-25 campaign started poorly, but they have turned it around to climb 11 points clear of relegation and are now threatening to gatecrash the top half of the table.

Crystal Palace defeated West Ham 2-0 last weekend to exact revenge for the 2-0 loss they suffered to them in the second match of the season. That latest impressive win, coupled with Brentford’s 2-0 loss to league leaders Liverpool, has put these two teams just a point apart. A win for the hosts will see them steal Brentford’s 11th spot, but they require six points, at the time of writing, to get into the top 10.

Fulham are in 10th, and they host Manchester United at Craven Cottage at 7pm the same day, so the Palace players will undoubtedly be watching this match keenly.

Oliver Glasner’s side started the season impaired with a reduced selection, due to injuries and registration deadlines, having to call upon several youth prospects to fill the bench, but players like Eddie Nketiah, obtained from Arsenal for £25 million last summer, and Ismaila Sarr, who joined the same time from Marseille, have given the club a much-needed attacking boost now that they have settled in. And now they have welcomed wonderkid Romain Esse from South London rivals, Millwall. The £14.5 million prospect is the most exciting prospect to come out of the Championship.

The next half of the season is looking up for the Eagles, and if they can win here at home, then they will be just one place outside the top 10, which is a fantastic achievement given their troubling start to the campaign.

Key Players To Watch

  • Ebere Eze – England international Eze is another ex-Millwall man and one of the most creative and attacking players in the team, a persistent threat going forward, which is why he has scored five times already this season.
  • Jean-Philippe Mateta – French international Mateta, 27, has scored 28 goals in 100 appearances for Palace since joining officially in 2022 after a loan spell. The 27-year-old competed in the France Olympic Team in the Paris 2024 Games where he finished up as third top scorer of the tournament with seven goals in eight games, claiming a silver medal.
  • Marc Guehi – The Ivory Coast-born centre-back came through the youth system at Chelsea and provides Crystal Palace with strength and stability at the back. The 24-year-old has a maturity beyond his years, which is why he’s been capped 22 times for England after making his way all through the youth teams from under-16s to 21s, representing his country over 70 times.

Crystal Palace Team News

Crystal Palace secured the signature of their South London rivals Millwall’s most exciting player – Romain Esse. The 19-year-old youngster has risen through the ranks at Millwall to become a regular starter, scoring five times this season whilst dazzling with his nifty footwork and impressive dribbling skills. The Millwall academy product has played over 20 games for England U18-U20.

Trevoh Chalobah has been recalled by London rivals Chelsea, who have been struggling for centre-backs this season.

Brentford: Current Form – LDLWLD

Brentford were also defeated at home by Arsenal recently – 3-1 – in their first game of 2025. Then, The Bees had to play Manchester City (2-2) and Liverpool (0-2) at home, so they’ve had some tough fixtures to kick the New Year off.

Despite only winning one from their last seven league games, they were able to inflict an upset on the current champions Manchester City, in a 2-2 draw at home. Phil Foden netted twice within 12 minutes in the second half, but Brentford roared back to score twice in the last 15 minutes and very nearly got the win.

However, they have the current league leaders Liverpool to contend with next, who they have already lost 2-0 to this season.

Their last win was a 5-0 thrashing of rock-bottom Southampton, who look all but certain for the drop.

Brentford’s season has been quite inconsistent, but they are cleverly collecting points against the teams they should be, such as Crystal Palace, Southampton twice, Wolves, Ipswich, Bournemouth, Leicester City.

They have lost to all the bigger teams, such as Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham, Man United, Aston Villa, Chelsea, an in-form Nottingham Forest, and Arsenal; although they were able to defeat Newcastle, who are now fourth.

So, they are securing the points they have the most chance of winning, but if they aim to remain in the top half or even mount a challenge for the top six, they will have to get a few more impressive wins, as they managed against Newcastle, starting with Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Key Players To Watch

  • Bryan Mbeumo – With 13 Premier League goals already, Bryan Mbeumo is joint fifth top goalscorer this season, tied with Nottingham Forest’s in-form Chris Wood.
  • Yoane Wissa – Remarkably, Yoan Wissa is the seventh top scorer in the league, making Brentford the only team to have two players in the top seven goalscorers.
  • Kevin Schade – German international, Schade, has scored six goals from all competitions this season for the Bees.

Brentford Team News

18-year-old left-back Jayden Meghoma has joined Championship side Preston on loan until the end of the season.

Centre-back Tristan Crama has been recalled on loan from Exeter City. The 23-year-old Frenchman kept nine clean sheets and scored four times in his 26 games in League One.

Their nickname, The Bees, came from a player in the 1890s. A group of students from nearby Borough Road College shouted, “Buck up Bs”, in support of their friend, Joseph Gettins, playing for the club. Local newspapers misheard the chant as “Buck up Bees” and the nickname stuck forever after.

Predicted Line-Ups

  1. Crystal Palace: 3-4-2-1

Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Lerma, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Phillipe-Mateta.

  2. Brentford: 4-3-3

Flekken; Roerslev-Rasmussen, Collins, van den Berg, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Janelt, Jenson; Mbeumo, Wissa, Damsgaard.

  2. Bryan Mbeumo – Anytime Goalscorer: Top scorer for Brentford, Mbeumo, has a strong chance of netting in this match. (9/5 with Betway)

  3. Exact Number of Goals – 4: Backing our predicted scoreline, the odds for three goals to be scored looks decent. (114/25 with Pinnacle)

Prediction: Draw

Crystal Palace appears to be in their flow now after a few new faces have finally settled in – their excellent current form tells the complete story.

However, the visitors, Brentford, are very dangerous going forward, currently boasting the fifth-best goalscoring record in the league, with 40 goals, at the time of writing. Only the prolific Tottenham, and top-five teams Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have scored more.

With the home advantage and their current form, Palace are the current favourites, however, we predict a draw at 2-2.
