Everton Current Form – DDDWW

Sean Dyche is a manager who doesn’t always get the respect he deserves. No, he isn’t going to coach a side to always play the most expansive football or have the most thrill-seeking approach to the Premier League – but neither does he need to.

Everton have had a seemingly successful end to 2024 and came into the new year with a renewed sense of belief and confidence in their ability. They also became more difficult to break down and played a style of football synonymous with their manager.

The only issue we have with the Toffees is the fact that they have struggled to score goals. At the time of writing, they have only scored 15 goals in the league…only Southampton have scored fewer. This certainly makes it difficult to back them in the betting, but game with limited goals should underpin all of your football predictions which include Everton.

Key Players to Watch

  • Ashley Young: A player who has gone about his business at Everton quietly, Young has shown that he is still able to contribute even at the highest levels of English football. His experience is without question invaluable to the Toffees and his aggressive defensive approach will be exactly what Sean Dyche looks for in his players.
  • Idrissa Gana Gueye: Gueye contiuues to be a workhorse in the middle of the park for Everton. He enjoys playing in the sort of half space between the 6 and 10 roles, but his contributions to his team have been at both ends of the field. He is certainly a player to watch here.
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin: Calvert-Lewin has struggled to earn a regular starting position this season but has shown glimpses of his former self during his cameo roles off the bench. We know he is a prolific finisher, but he has slow proven to be a confidence player at Everton. If he is to continue growing into his role and shows his best, he is a dangerous player upfront for the Toffees.

Everton Team News

Dwight McNeil (knee injury), James Garner (back injury), Seamus Coleman (knock) and Tim Iroegbunam (foot injury) are all sidelined by injury for this encounter.

Aston Villa Current Form – WWWWD

Aston Villa will be rightly frustrated that they have let so many points slip right at the end of many fixtures (think back to that Brighton fixture a few weeks back). That aside, they have played some really competitive football though and managed to earn really decent points.

Ollie Watkins replaced the suspended Jhon Duran and in so doing, reminded the league about his ability and scoring prowess. Morgan Rogers will also return for Unai Emery’s team which will be a huge boost to their midfield endeavors.

The only concern you could possibly have ahead of this Everton vs Aston Villa prediction is the fact that Villa have struggled on the road when compared to their home record.

Key Players to Watch

  • Ollie Watkins: Watkins continues to ensure he establishes himself as a key figure in this Aston Villa attack. He has been a reliable source of goals for Unai Emery and even seen international inclusion thanks to his domestic performances. He will be important to Villa for the second half of this season.
  • Ezri Konsa: Konsa has been an interesting player for Aston Villa. He doesn’t always seem to be the most loved player on the field, but at the heart of their defence he has been vitally important for Villa. A towering figure at set piece time, he also offers versatility to Unai Emry’s side’s attacking threat.
  • Emiliano Martinez: The charismatic keeper is once again mentioned as a key player for Aston Villa simply because he is. A unit in the goals, his communication, supreme confidence and relentless pursuit for success is something which shouldn’t be underestimated at Villa.

Diego Carlos (leg injury) and Pau Torres (broken finger) are unavailable for this encounter.

Predicted Line-Up

  1. Everton: 4-3-3

Pickford, Mykolenko, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Young, Doucoure, Gueye, Mangala, Lindstrom, Broja, Ndiaye.

  2. Aston Villa: 4-2-3-1

Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne, Kamara, Barkley, Bailey, Tielemans, McGinn, Watkins.

Suggested Bets

The suggested bets thanks to our Premier League betting insights for both Everton and Aston Villa.

  1. Draw/Aston Villa: Aston Villa certainly have the better team here but given Everton’s defensive form and Villa’s record on the road, it might be safer to back Unai Emery’s side on the win/draw double chance. 7/20 (1.35) with 1xBet and Betway.

  2. Under 2.5 Goals: We expect Everton to be really compact and difficult to break down. Villa won’t have it all their own way, but together with Everton’s struggles in front of goal, backing under 2.5 goals makes sense. 37/50 (1.74) with 1xBet and Betway.

  3. Draw/Aston Villa + Under 2.5 Goals: For maximum value, combine these two betting strategies with your favourite sportsbook. 33/25 (2.32) with 1xBet and Stake.

Value Bets

  1. Aston Villa Win to Nil: Back Aston Villa to win to nil at generous odds.  14/5 (3.8) with Betway and Pinnacle.

  2. Aston Villa Clean Sheet: Without as much risk, backing Villa to simply keep a clean sheet still brings with it plenty of value. Get on at 37/20 (2.85) with Betway.

  3. Ollie Watkins (Anytime Goalscorer): Watkins has been in superb form of late and we suggest backing him to find the back of the net. You can get as much as 28/10 (3.8) with 1xBet and Stake.

Prediction: Aston Villa (Win/Draw) Double Chance + Under 2.5 Goals

Our Everton vs Aston Villa prediction sees Unai Emery’s side come away with something from this game whilst the goals market to remain under 2.5 goals. The balance in the visitor’s team leads us to think they should be backed, but for extra security, we suggest opting for the Double Chance and goals inclusion.
