Ipswich Town vs Southampton Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Date: February 1, 2025 Kickoff Time: 03:00 PM(UK) Venue: Portman Road Stadium These two teams currently occupy the last two positions on the Premier League table. Saying that they are ‘desperate for a win’ could be the understatement of the year – especially considering the fact that teams around them have managed to pick up wins. Ipswich Town vs Southampton online betting odds will be interesting to take note of. Ipswich have played really good football at times, but the Saints are arguably more clinical in front of goal.

Ipswich Current Form – DWLLL

Ipswich were absolutely battered by both Manchester City and Liverpool last time out. We have said this before and are happy to become repetitive here, Ipswich play really brave football. They are totally committed to their approach and at times have been rather unlucky with their results.

However, it is still a surprise to see them as such heavy favourites with Premier League betting sites for this encounter.

You really do get the feeling that with the grit they possess, when they play the so-called lesser teams, they should be coming away with a lot more. Then again, football isn’t played on paper, points aren’t awarded for grit and confidence, and nobody is coming to save the Tractor Boys – this is up to them.

Key Players to Watch

  • Liam Delap: The youngster continues to lead the Ipswich attacking line with absolute resolve. He looks and feels like a seasoned number nine, albeit his team continue to struggle. Ipswich aren’t ripping up any trees in the attacking department, but Delap is seemingly on the cusp of an England call-up. That should tell you everything you need to know.
  • Leif Davis: He has become a stalwart for Ipswich and carries a very real threat for his team down the left flank. Against a Southampton side with expansive ideas in possession of the football, Davis might be given a bit of space within to exploit!
  • Kalvin Phillips: Each and every time you see Kalvin Phillips’ name; you simply cannot help but think back to the fact that this is a player who once started a European championship final match! He has been looking to return to the player he once was, and there are certainly glimpses.
What do they say anyway? Form is temporary and talent is forever and all that.

Ipswich Team News

Chiedozie Ogbene (leg injury), Conor Chaplin (knee injury), Sammie Szmodics (knock) and Wes Burns (knee injury) are all unavailable to Kieron McKenna here.

Southampton Current Form – LWLLL

You can’t help but feel sorry for Southampton. For the past few games, they have been right in the fight, and an argument could even be made for the Saints to have come away with more against all of Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.

The reality is they are pretty much dead and buried. Any betting bonuses you have used on Southampton to be relegated has been money well spent! Get in the que early and collect those winnings, because Arsenal will win the league before they survive this season!

Hopefully they get more than Derby’s 11 points in the 2007/08 season and avoid a horrible new record.

Key Players to Watch

  • Taylor Harwood-Bellis: The youngster has seen a lot of game time for the Saints this season, and to be fair to him, he has arguably been one of their better starters. A truly towering figure, Harwood-Bellis plays with the confidence of a seasoned veteran. At just 22, they will be hopeful of more big performances from him.
  • Adam Armstrong: Armstrong is one of the most experienced players at Southampton. He has struggled for minutes at times this season, but he has shown his class each time he starts. If only he was able to replicate his performances in the championship, in the Premier League.
  • Adam Lallana: Yes, we have said this before, but Lallana back at the club where it all began is a rather sentimental end to his Premier League career. While his best days are certainly behind him, Lallana still holds impressive ability and always carries a threat in the final third. Could he have something to say should he get some game time?

Southampton Team News

Aaron Ramsdale (knock), Gavin Bazunu (calf injury), Jack Stephens (knock), Ross Stewart (muscle injury) and Tyler Dibling (ankle injury).

Predicted Line-Up

  1. Ipswich: 4-2-3-1

Walton, Tuanzebe, O’Shea, Greaves, Davis, Morsy, Phillips, Burns, Hutchinson, Philogene, Delap.

  2. Southampton: 3-4-1-2

McCarthy, Bree, Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis, Walker-Peters, Ugochukwu, Aribo, Manning, Fernandes, Onauchu, Armstrong.

Suggested Bets

Our Premier League betting strategies and suggested bets for Ipswich vs Southampton are outlined below.

  1. Both Teams to Score: It is difficult to trust either side defensively. They have at times been found out and so for us, backing Both Teams to Score seems like the play here. 7/10 (1.7) with Pinnacle and Betway.

  2. Over 2.5 Goals: For those punters who might prefer something safer, back Over 2.5 Goals here. A high-scoring affair awaits, and you will be a winner should one side not fire on all cylinders. 7/10 (1.7) with 1xBet and Pinnacle.

  3. Both Teams to Score + Over 2.5 Goals: Combine the two betting suggestions for maximum value. Get on at 9/10 (1.9) with 1xBet and Pinnacle.

Value Bets

  1. Southampton (Win/Draw) Double Chance: The Saints might look dead and buried, but their performances have arguably deserved more. If they can replicate those games against Ipswich here, they might come away with something. 21/25 (1.84) with 1xBet and Pinnacle.

  2. Southampton (Win/Draw) + Over 2.5 Goals: To be completely honest, adding over 2.5 goals to any betting approach in a game like this won’t just bolster the value – it also carries a degree of certainty! 33/10 (4.3) with 1xBet and Pinnacle.

  3. 1st Half – Both Teams to Score: Back Both Teams to Score in the first half, the game should get off to an absolute flyer – considering the urgency and need to throw everything at it! 16/5 (4.2) with 1xBet and Pinnacle about the Blues winning the first half!

Prediction: Both Teams to Score (Yes)

Our Premier League insights lead us to believe that this is a banker option, without question. The lack of defensive solidity, coupled with a potent attack on each side leads us all to think the 7/10 available about the market is a must-have.
