Leicester City vs Crystal Palace: The Foxes in Desperate Need of a Win

Dutch tactician Ruud van Nistelrooy started off on a good note with a 3-1 win over West Ham followed by a 2-2 draw against Brighton, but since then, it has been nothing short of a disaster for his team. Leicester are on a 5-game losing streak and will be in desperate need of a change in fortunes when they square up against Palace.

The Foxes suffered defeats to Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool, Wolves and Newcastle. Perhaps as a consolation we could suggest that they were up against tough opposition barring Wolves who are just two positions above them. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, have done well in their last five games.

Palace have lost only once and picked up eight points with two wins and two draws. Coming into this one they will be the more confident of the two teams having forced favourable results against top teams like Chelsea.

Head-to-Head record

The head-to-head encounters between these two teams are pretty much equal, with three draws played out over the years and a sole win for either team. All the matches produced goals and both teams scored, barring a 0-0 draw in 2022.

Last 5 Meetings

  1. 14/09/24: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester City

  2. 01/04/23: Crystal Palace 2-1 Leicester City

  3. 15/10/22: Leicester City 0-0 Crystal Palace

  4. 10/04/22: Leicester City 2-1 Crystal Palace

  5. 03/10/21: Crystal Palace 2-2 Leicester City

Leicester City Current Form – LLLLL

Five straight losses is not desirable for a team that just made its Premier League return and for a new manager. Leicester’s form is currently the worst in England’s top league followed by Southampton who were at least able to manage a draw in their losing streak. The Foxes conceded fourteen goals in that stretch and only scored twice.

Their goal difference is -21 with 23 goals scored and 44 conceded overall in the Premier League, second worst to Southampton whose goal difference is -32. A turnaround is needed in this fixture if they are to move out of the drop zone, being only two points from Wolves who are seventeenth with sixteen points.

Key Players to Watch

  • Jamie Vardy: The team is in desperate need of goals and veteran forward, Jamie Vardy, will be looking to increase his tally of six with a good performance on the day. Vardy’s credentials are not in doubt and if he steps up and provides some leadership, then his team can do well.
  • Stephy Mavididi: Mavididi scored the last time out in their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa. The pacey left-winger has three goals overall this season and an assist. Vardy will be looking at him for pinpoint crosses.
  • Jordan Ayew: The Ghanaian is having a good debut season playing just behind Vardy, and his experience will be crucial for the Foxes. He has scored four times this campaign and is a great figure in the team.

Leicester Team City News

Mads Hermansen is out with a muscle injury and won’t be expected to make a return for this one. Looking to bring in some reinforcements with the team’s struggles in mind, coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly looking at bringing in two Manchester United players in Victor Lindelof and Toby Collyer.

Current Form – DWDLW

Oliver Glasner’s team have had a good run of form with only one defeat in five games. The last time Palace lost was out against Arsenal in a 5-1 thrashing at home. In the subsequent games, they were able to keep their opponents out and only conceded twice against Chelsea and Bournemouth, respectively.

Away from home, they haven’t lost in five games and are one of the better performers on the road. Palace have drawn three times and won twice, scoring eight times in that run. They will be looking to maintain a similar run of form coming into this game.

Key Players to Watch

  • Marc Guehi: Guehi plays a crucial role in Crystal Palace’s defensive setup and with his strength and hard tackling, the likes of Jamie Vardy and Jordan Ayew will not have an easy day.
  • Maxence Lacroix: Another defender that will make it tough for the opposition forwards. Maxence Lacroix has featured for Palace seventeen times this season in the Premier League and has one goal and assist to his name.
  • Ismaila Sarr: Sarr has appeared twenty times for his team this season and scored four goals playing slightly behind Mateta in a 3-4-2-1 formation and has assisted two times. He will be a player to look out for in the lineup.

Crytal Palace Team News

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Palace’s captain, Marc Guehi’s agents, looking to cover for a lack in defensive options with some key players missing. Trevoh Chalobah could also be recalled from his loan. Will Huges and Adam Wharton are doubtful for this game as both are out with niggling injuries.

Predicted Line-ups

  1. Leicester City: 4-2-3-1

Stolarczyk, Justin, Coady, Vestergaard, Kristiansen, Soumare, Winks, Mavididi, El Khannouss, Ayew, Vardy

  2. Crystal Palace: 3-4-2-1

Henderson, Richards, Lacroix, Guehi, Mitchell, Lerma, Doucoure, Munoz, Eze, Sarr, Mateta

Suggested Bets

Have a look at our three selections for suggested bets. We went for score markets informed by past results.

  1. Total Goals – Over 2.5: Encounters between these two teams generally produce goals, with only one failing to do so. Leicester City and Crystal Palace have twice played to a 2-1 result and twice again played to a 2-2 result. We tip the game to therefore have more than two goals. (37/50 with N1Bet).

  2. Both Teams to Score – Yes: Like we tipped above, we foresee both teams scoring in the match. Four of their last five matches have produced a both teams to score result. (33/50 with N1Bet).

  3. Leicester City Total Goals – Over 0.5: Although lacking in their most recent games, we tip Leicester City to at least score one goal in this encounter. Home advantage will work for them against a team they have historically found the net against regularly (9/25 with N1Bet).

Value Bets

Our value bets offer you a good chance at making good money with bigger odds. Make your pick, stake big and stand a chance of making a significant return.

  1. Result and Both Teams to Score – Draw/Yes: We predict a score draw with both teams scoring. Leicester will be looking for some sort of result and a draw could probably be the best outcome for them. (16/5 with Betway).

  2. Winning Margin – Draw: The game is likely to result in a draw, therefore, there will be no winning margin at the end of ninety minutes. A result that is very likely to happen, take note and consider it. (45/20 with Betway).

  3. First Half First Goal – Leicester City: Teams that are usually on the back foot after a string of losses like Leicester, usually come out to shock their opponents with their backs against the walls. We tip them to grab a quick goal against Palace. (21/10 with Betway).

Prediction: Draw

Our overall prediction of the game is a draw, a result we think will be favourable for the hosts, who need some points to give them some sort of a morale boost. Ruud van Nistelrooy will run a tight ship on the day to stop the rot of fourteen goals conceded in five games. (53/20 with Sportbet.io)
