Liverpool Current Form – WLLDL
Liverpool is without question the better team, but this won’t be easy for them. The noise around Anfield relating to Trent Alexander-Arnold might be a distraction but given how close they are to another league title, Arne Slot will no doubt want to insulate his side from this as much as possible.
A few days ago, Liverpool were competing on all fronts. Today, they are no longer in the Champions League and were beaten by Newcastle at Wembley. It will be interesting to see how they react to all of that.
Key Players to Watch
Mohamed Salah
Could this be his last Merseyside Derby for the club? He continues to be a standout performer for the Reds and will no doubt lead the line here once again. He is the total embodiment of consistency and hard work and he will likely be one to watch again.
Virgil van Dyk
He continues to serve as the lynchpin in defence for Liverpool. His contributions in maintaining their solid backline shouldn’t be underestimated and given the season he has once again had; nobody can deny that he has once again been one of the best players for the Reds.
Alisson Becker
In truth, you could have probably guessed these three players for Liverpool. However, they have been crucial for Liverpool’s continued success in the league this year. Becker has shown that he still has what it takes to keep his side in a contest and has been unplayable in recent weeks. They will be hoping for another big showing here.
Liverpool Team News
At the time of writing, Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the only player still an injury doubt for Liverpool. Arne Slot will need to find another option on the flank once again ahead of this derby.
Everton Current Form – WDDDD
Everton come into this game off the back of a nine-game unbeaten run in the league under manager David Moyes. As we alluded to earlier, his return has galvanized this Everton side into finding their identity and belief once again. They just continue to find ways to win and the proverbial pot at the end of this rainbow is a league spot next season.
They will want to show Liverpool up here and given that it is a bit of a free-hit for them, I can’t really see past the Toffees giving Arne Slot’s men a run for their money.
Key Players to Watch
Beto
He continues to be one of Everton’s top players, scoring for fun in the league and playing with absolute freedom under David Moyes. His importance in this team’s attacking ability cannot be underestimated.
Iliman Ndiaye
He is another player we have spoken a lot about this season and rightly so. He is another important facet in the attacking options at Everton and will certainly want to put his name under the Anfield midweek spotlights. That is, of course, if he is passed fit for the clash.
Jake O’Brien
A versatile defender who has found a new home in the right-back position, O’Brien is another player who is playing with incredible freedom under David Moyes. A reliable option and robust defender in the English league, there was never a doubt of his impending success.
Everton Team News
Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains unavailable for David Moyes due to his hamstring strain, Dwight McNeil and Orel Mangala make up the rest of the absenteeism at Everton going into this clash.
