Liverpool has been the best team in the land, there is no doubt about that. Arne Slot has come in in his first season in English football and transformed this Reds team into an attacking beast that outscores all before them. Slot’s team is six points clear at the top of the league and has a game in hand, so there is a potential nine-point gap in February! Their last outing was another routine victory, 2-0 away at Bournemouth. 

Wolverhampton Wanderers have had very contrasting fortunes. After sacking manager Gary O’Neil three months into the season, new manager Vitor Pereira has been trying to steady the ship. The visitors are 17th, just a solitary place above the relegation zone. Wolves claimed a huge win in their last game out, beating a solid Aston Villa team 2-0 at home.

  • Mohamed Salah: The Egyptian is having an all-timer season, even by his standards! Salah has been clinical in the final third and a vital contributor in difficult moments for the Reds this season. The right-winger has 34 goal contributions in just 23 Premier League games.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold: Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contribution in a Liverpool shirt has been sublime this season. Often criticised for his defensive frailties, the Englishman’s attacking capabilities certainly make up for it. Seven goal contributions from right back is impressive. 
  • Ryan Gravenberch: The Dutchman has exploded in his second season in England. Playing in the six, Gravenberch has controlled games and been technically secure doing it at the same time. For a team like Liverpool where games become a bit like basketball, he is doing an amazing job shutting down attacks and being a springboard to play off.

The only long-term absentee for the Merseyside club is Joe Gomez who is nursing a hamstring injury. Alexander-Arnold also picked up a knock but should be fit for the visit of Wolves.

Wolves have been on a torrid run of form. The visitors have won just a single game in five and lost the rest. That poor form has allowed 18th placed Leicester City to creep up to within just two points of Wolves. Pereira and his technical team need to get more out of this talented group.

  • Matheus Cunha: Cunha's role has become even more critical recently considering that his side are now in a relegation battle. The Brazilian is Wolves’ best creative force with 11 goals and four assists to his name this season. 
  • Rayan Ait-Nouri: His versatility and adaptability to play as a full-back or attacking winger makes him very difficult to prepare for. The Algerian has been a consistent performer for his club this season. 
  • Nelson Semedo: The Portuguese right-back has been given the captain’s armband and taken on the extra responsibility well. He is a seasoned defender that bombards down the right flank and has three assists to show for his constant overlaps.

Wolves head into this clash with several key absentees due to injury. Boubacar Traore, Enso Gonzalez, Sasa Kalajdzic, and Yerson Mosquera are all side-lined with knee injuries. Additionally, Jorgen Strand Larsen is ruled out with a muscle issue but should be fit in time for the Liverpool clash.
