Southampton welcome Brighton to St. Mary’s in another Premier League showdown as both teams look to add to their points tally. The first-round fixture finished in a stalemate at the Amex Stadium as a Flynne Downes strike in the second half cancelled out a Kaoru Mitoma goal in the first half to share the points. 

The Saints are coming into the tie high on confidence after securing just their second win of the season last time out against Ipswich. Albion are on the other end of that spectrum after being handed a seven-nil drubbing by Nottingham Forest.

  • Aaron Ramsdale: The former Arsenal shot-stopper has had a difficult spell at St.Mary’s this campaign but has made some vital stops for his team. The 26-year-old’s experience will be key in the run-in till May. 
  • Kyle Walker-Peters: The exciting full-back can play on either wing and loves to bomb forward. Primarily used at right back, the Englishman has registered two assists from fullback this campaign.

The home team have a few players who will miss the Brighton visit. Defender Juan Larios is out, Ross Stewart is unavailable due to a muscle injury. Midfielder Ryan Fraser is also doubtful after suffering a knock. Taylor Harwood-Bellis is recovering from an ankle injury. There is some good news, however, as Jack Stephens has recently recovered from a calf problem and should be fit in time for the clash.

  • Danny Welbeck: The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker has been a class act for Albion this season. The experienced 34-year-old has led the line brilliantly for his club and registered six goals and two assists in 18 Premier League appearances this season. 
  • Carlos Baleba: The Cameroonian has been a brilliant performer for his side this season. A holding midfielder that can dictate play and turn on a dime, the 21-year-old looks like another great find from the Brighton recruitment staff. 
  • Kaoru Mitoma: The 27-year-old dribbling wizard is a nightmare for fullback’s in the Premier League to deal with. The Japanese can go inside or outside his marker and has eight goal contributions to his name this term.

Brighton have major injury concerns coming into the tie. Goalkeeper Jason Steele is out with a shoulder injury. Igor Julio and veteran James Milner are both sidelined with hamstring issues. Yasin Ayari is also out with a muscle injury, along with Pervis Estupinan and Solly March who are also nursing muscle injuries. Additionally, Ferdi Kadioglu is doubtful due to a toe injury. Mats Wieffer's might return in time for the trip to Saint Mary’s.
