Wolves vs Aston Villa Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Date: February 1, 2025 Kickoff Time: 17:30 (UK Time) Venue: Molineux Stadium Wolves now find themselves right in the middle of a very real relegation scrap. Sitting in 18th place with just 16 points from the season so far, they might be in a bit of trouble! Aston Villa have somewhat continued to plod away under the radar, but with just four points separating them from Champions League positions, not many Premier League betting sites will be counting them out.

Wolves Current Form – LWLLL

With just the one win from their last five results, the pressure is steadily building for Wolves. Their manager, Vitor Pereira, began really well when he first joined the club but that now seems like a distant memory.

You have got to feel for him a little bit, the media is unrelenting – especially after he had a bit of a go with Matheus Cunha for his perceived poor body language – but the pressure is starting to look as though it is taking its toll.

Wolves have not got an easy run by any stretch of imagination, but they are a competitive team at home and you get the feeling that if they manage to register one positive performance, they will kick on from there.

Key Players to Watch

  • Matheus Cunha: There is no question that he has been a key man for Wolves. He always looks to be wanting to get on the ball and when he does, he can cause the opponent some serious problems. Only four players have taken more shots than him in the league, Wolves will be hoping he fires once again soon!
  • Rayan Ait-Nouri: He has also become something of a danger man for Wolves. A skillful defender who loves getting up and down the pitch, he always looks to want to produce something for Wolves and if he is granted space – back him to capitalize!
  • Jorgen Strand Larsen: As a centre-forward you want to be energetic around the final third and cause the defending team as much problems as possible. That has been Larsen to a tee! He doesn’t concede any space or physical challenge and is certainly one to keep an eye on here.

Wolves Team News

Boubacar Traore (knee injury), Carlos Forbs (ankle injury), Enso Gonzalez (knee injury), Leon Chiwome (cruciate ligament injury), Sasa Kalajdzic (knee injury) and Yerson Mosquera (knee injury).

Aston Villa Current Form – WWDLD

Our Aston Villa prediction is pretty straightforward. They are eighth in the league at the moment and still competitive in the Champions League. If you could have that at the beginning of the season as a Villa fan you would possibly take it without even giving it a second thought!

There have been rumblings of frustration between Jhon Duran and Ollie Watkins, which could be cause for concern. They don’t seem to be playing well together, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that these are two exceptional attacking options for Aston Villa.

Key Players to Watch

  • Ollie Watkins: Ollie Watkins is nothing if not consistent. He is the sort of player who you give you confidence in a team quite easily, especially when finalizing those weekend football betting tips. Keep an eye on him here.
  • Youri Tielemans: He is another player who brings international experience to the Villa midfield and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. From breaking down opponents’ possession to driving his own team forward, Tielemans is definitely a key player for Villa.
  • Lucas Digne: He is often a player who goes under the radar, but Digne is someone who loves getting forward from defensive positions. It has become something of value in the modern game, but Digne couples that with a strong defensive showing as well!

Aston Villa Team News

Ross Barkley (calf injury), Amadou Onana (hamstring injury), Pau Torres (broken finger) and Tyrone Mings (knock) are all doubts.

Predicted Line-Up

  1. Wolves: 3-4-2-1

Sa, Doherty, Bueno, Agbadou, Semedo, Andre, Gomes, Ait-Nouri, Sarabia, Cunha, Strand Larsen.

  2. Aston Villa: 4-2-3-1

Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne, Kamara, Tielemans, Bailey, Rogers, Ramsey, Watkins.

Suggested Bets

The suggested bets thanks to our online football betting insights for both Wolves and Aston Villa.

  1. Aston Villa Win: There is enough in this team to justify a win. Villa is pushing hard for European involvement, and we think they will have too much for their hosts. 11/10 (2.1) with 1xBet and Betway.

  2. Over 2.5 Goals: Wolves certainly have goals in them, and with the likes of Matheus Cunha playing with something to prove, we back both Over 2.5 Goals here. 14/25 (1.56) with 1xBet and Betway.

  3. Aston Villa + Over 2.5 Goals: For maximum value, combine these two betting options with your favourite Premier League sportsbook. 5/2 (3.5) with Stake and 1xBet.

Value Bets

  1. 1st Goal Aston Villa: Back Aston Villa to get off to a flyer. They will no doubt take the game to Wolves, and we think they will open the scoring. 18/25 (1.72) with Pinnacle and Betway.

  2. Aston Villa By 1 Goal: Villa should win the game, but that isn’t to say that Wolves won’t remain competitive here. Get on at 16/5 (4.2) with Betway.

  3. Ollie Watkins (Anytime Goalscorer): Watkins has been in superb form of late and we suggest backing him to find the back of the net here once again! You can get as much as 28/10 (3.8) with 1xBet and Stake.

Prediction: Aston Villa to Win

There is a lot on the line for Aston Villa. Unai Emery will know that even whilst they want to remain competitive in Europe right now, the league is still their bread and butter. European qualification is still well within reach for them and so our Wolves vs Aston Villa preview leads us to back a Villa win!
