Jamaican hitman Jamal Lowe has backed “scary” Sheffield Wednesday to prove their doubters wrong.

The Owls narrowly avoided relegation from the second-tier last season and have struggled for form this season.

Lowe Confident in Wednesday’s Depth

But Lowe, who joined the South Yorkshire club on a free transfer this summer following his release from Bournemouth, is confident the quality in the Hillsborough outfit will get better as the season progresses.

"The quality of the squad is scary,” stressed Lowe, who has started the season with two goals.

He told SportsBoom.com: “The strength in depth is really good, the players off the bench are unbelievable.”

“There are players who aren't even making the squad, and we have got a few injured boys as well. We have got unbelievable talent and unbelievable professionals.”
"Competition for places is tough and that's only going to help people perform at their peak because they know if they don't that there is somebody else ready to take their place.”

“It's not like at some clubs where the person replacing you is 18 and might have never played a game.”

Most managers wouldn't chuck them straight in, but we have got certified quality waiting to be on the pitch and that's good for the squad. It's a long season and we are going to need everyone.

Aiming for Play-Offs Despite Early Struggles

The Owls claimed a famous promotion back to the Championship in the 2022-23 season, but the following season suffered a baptism of fire with a worrying 20th place finish.

However, former Swansea City, QPR, Wigan, Portsmouth and Barnet marksman Lowe is focused on trying to get the Owls into the play-offs this season.

He bagged nine goals last season and is out to better than return with double figures – and more – this time around.”

"I think the play-offs are possible,” he offered. “We have got to take it one game at a time, but I think that has to be the aim. Why not?”

"We go into every game wanting to win the game. We are not going into games playing for a draw or putting 11 men behind the ball.”

“Win or lose, we are going to die on the sword almost and we are going to play our way. Hopefully we will be more successful than not.”

"And from a personal point of view I want to score as many as possible and stay fit.”

“Touch fit, I won't pick up any injuries and we shall see where that takes us. If everyone does their job and stays fit, it is going to be good come the end of the season.”

Backing Record Signing Ike Ugbo

Lowe has backed record signing Ike Ugbo to his straps this season and cause waves in the second tier.

Former England Under-21 international Ugbo joined the Owls on a permanent contract in the summer having impressed on loan last season.

"He's a top-quality player,” said Lowe. “If I'm not scoring, I'm sure he will be ready to score.”

“Hopefully, we will be on the pitch at the same time. The strength of the squad is incredible.”
