New signing Joe Taylor is channelling his inner Luke Littler in his bid to fire Huddersfield Town back to the Championship.

The Terriers’ new hitman was one of the millions who watched the teenage sensation become the youngest world champion in darts history earlier this month.

Littler has taken to darts like a duck to water and Taylor, a handy arrow thrower himself, hopes to bed into the West Yorkshire club just as easily.

The rising star striker, who has previously stated his darts’ nickname is Joe ‘The Power’ Taylor, has an impressive highest checkout of 141 and is keen to assert himself as the alpha male on the Terriers’ oche.

He told SportsBoom.com: “As a sportsman, it’s very inspiring seeing what Luke Littler’s doing in darts.”

“He’s obviously a bit younger than me. But what he’s doing at his age and what he has done at his age already is incredible.”

“It’s one of those things where, despite his age, you look up to because as it stands he’s the best in the world at what he does."

“Stories like that are always inspiring."

“I’m just as confident with my darting ability as I am my footballing ability.”

“There are a few good players in this dressing room. I’ve only been here a week or so but I’ve had a few good match ups already.”

“Michy’s [Omari Mrisho] quite good as well. In fact that’s not doing him any justice really. He’s actually very good.”

“I’m looking forward to seeing who else has got a bit on the oche.”

TAYLOR FINALLY MAKES MOVE TO TERRIERS

Taylor’s move from Luton Town to the Terriers has been a long time coming. A deadline-day loan failed to materialise for the 22-year-old in the summer off the back of scoring 22 goals in 46 appearances during spells at Colchester United and Lincoln City last term.

He was described as offering a “dimension we don’t have” by boss Michael Duff who highlighted his blistering pace and keen eye for goal as attributes the club were desperate to add to their striker stocks.

Taylor was left disgruntled by his lack of minutes in a struggling Hatters’ side and feels he has a point to prove now he has finally made the move up north.

“I’m here now and the end goal is to get this club back to where it belongs,” added live-wire Taylor.

“Ultimately, the football club and us as players we want to get back to the Championship and prove we are too good for this league and be up there competing with the best."

“That’s what we’re all striving for here.”

NEW CLUB, OLD PALS

Taylor already has a tight bond with Lasse Sorenson, who he spent the second half of last season with during his time at Sincil Bank.

He believes that will help him settle into his usual goalscoring habits sooner rather than later.

“Lasse is brilliant. The lads will tell you that he’s an interesting character. He’s one of the nicest blokes you’ll meet, but he can talk the hind legs off a donkey."

“He’s made it really easy for me settle in and I’m looking forward to working with him again.”
