Brentford have a fight on their hands to keep star winger Bryan Mbeumo at the club beyond this season, sources close to SportsBoom understand.

The Cameroon international has attracted a number of suitors from the Premier League’s top clubs.

SportsBoom sources believe it will take substantially more than the £40million Brentford received for Ivan Toney to tempt the Bees to part with one of their prized assets.

The likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all been linked with taking Mbeumo away from the GTech.

With his contract up in 2026, the club will be forced to make a decision about his future this summer.

Mbeumo is happy at Brentford under highly-regarded manager Thomas Frank, but Champions League football and a big increase in wages could prove too much of a lure to turn down.

Liverpool have earmarked Mbeumo on a shortlist of potential successors to Mohamed Salah’s throne when the Egyptian maestro leaves the club.

Salah’s contract at Anfield is up at the end of the season and the two parties are seemingly no closer to coming to terms over a new deal.

A BIG LOSS

Mbeumo has been at the forefront of the Bees’ success since joining the West London outfit from Troyes in 2019 and helped the club establish themselves in the top flight.

Alongside Yoann Wissa, the club’s highest goal getter in the Premier League, Mbeumo has ensured a seamless transition since talisman Toney’s move to Saudi Arabia last summer.

Mbeumo has improved his output this term with 15 goals already to his name after ranging between eight-ten in previous Premier League campaigns.

But still only 25-years-of-age Mbeumo the right-sided ace, who has made over 200 league appearances for Brentford, has his peak years ahead of him and will surely want to add trophies to his CV, something the Bees cannot offer him in the short to medium term.
