Jacob Wright could be in line for a permanent move to the Championship next season.
The Manchester City youngster has earned himself a number of admirers after showcasing his talents during his loan spell at Norwich City this term.
And SportsBoom understands Preston North End could try and steal the rising star before he commits to Carrow Road.
There were a group of suitors for Wright’s signature last month, with Swansea City keen to take him on loan.
The midfielder endured a shaky start to life at the Canaries, after signing a short-term loan deal on deadline day.
But manager Johannes Hoff Thorup has been “impressed” with the 19-year-old.
And Norwich could trigger their option-to-buy the youngster when his loan spell ends at the end of the season.
But Preston are ready to push the button with a £2million bid for the midfielder with North End boss Paul Heckingbottom a huge admirer of the Manchester City ace.
SportsBoom sources have been told Swansea will not reignite their interest in the promising prospect, unless City decide to send the player out on loan again rather than selling him.
Wright is understood to be desperate for regular first-team football and sees his long-term future away from the Premier League champions, where he has shot through the ranks.
CAREER TO DATE
The English youth international made his City debut last year during the 5-0 FA Cup victory over Huddersfield Town and made his Champions League bow when he replaced star striker Erling Haaland against Copenhagen.
This season he played in the League Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur before making the move to Norfolk.
Wright was named in the recent England Elite League Squad, which was formerly the U20 set up, and captained the side during their 2-2 draw with Switzerland.
