Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin could find himself the subject of a transfer tug-of-war this summer if Arsenal decide to rival Newcastle for the centre-forward’s signature, SportsBoom sources can reveal.

Aged 27, the former Sheffield United striker appears destined to leave Goodison Park this summer when his contract there expires.

With the Premier League club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, expected to greenlight a reprofiling of David Moyes’ squad, a number of well-placed sources expect Calvert-Lewin to move on following nine years in the North-West.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, Moyes’ counterpart at St James’ Park, is an admirer of the England international and would like to sign him whether Alexander Isak departs or not.

But Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, is also likely to bolster his attacking options after seeing injuries undermine the Londoners’ push for a first title since 2004.

Although Calvert-Lewin’s fitness record could count against him, particularly given Arteta’s selection issues of late, he does possess the qualities the Spaniard’s recruitment experts value in the transfer market - both on the pitch and off it too.

LACK OF ACTION

Calvert-Lewin has featured only three times for Moyes, who returned to Everton for a second spell in charge two months ago.

He scored his third goal of what has proved a frustrating campaign during the 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur; a result which kick-started the Scot’s reign.

Capped 11 times by his country, Calvert-Lewin began his career with his hometown club United where he made 12 outings before being sold to Everton for a fee thought to be less than £1m.

Having also represented Stalybridge Celtic and Northampton Town on loan as a youngster, Calvert-Lewin has played 269 times for Everton, netting 71 times in the process.

Newcastle are believed to have investigated the possibility of submitting a bid for him during the winter transfer window. Although one did not materialise, that did not mark the end of their interest.
