Exclusive: Hull City's Regan Slater in High Demand as Sheff Utd and Middlesbrough Monitor His Situation
Hull City midfielder Regan Slater is attracting interest from several clubs, including his former team Sheffield United, if the Tigers are relegated. The 25-year-old's versatile performances have caught the eye of Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and Derby County. Despite being contracted to Hull until next season, Slater may consider his options if they drop down a division. Former coach Chris Wilder values Slater's abilities, making him a 'Wanted Man' in the Championship.

Regan Slater will be a man in demand this summer if Hull City are relegated, with his former club Sheffield United among those monitoring his situation in East Yorkshire, SportsBoom sources can reveal.
Officials purporting to be acting on behalf of Chris Wilder’s side made tentative enquiries about the midfielder after United surrendered their Premier League status nearly 12 months ago.
Slater has matured into one of the Championship’s most versatile performers since leaving Bramall Lane in 2022, excelling both in central areas of the pitch and as a makeshift wing-back.
That, combined with his all-action approach, has seen him added to the wish list of numerous second tier teams who could consider exploiting City’s vulnerability if Ruben Selles fails to save them from the drop.
Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Derby County, who tracked Slater’s progress before he broke into United’s senior squad, are thought to be among his admirers.
CONTRACT OPTIONS
Although he is contracted to City until the end of next term - with Selles’ employers inserting a potential extension, loaded in their favour, into his present agreement - Slater is likely to consider his options if City fail to avoid the drop.
Despite being used sparingly under his predecessor Tim Walter, who was sacked following a miserable start to the campaign, Slater is known to have impressed Selles with his work ethic following the Spaniard’s appointment in December.
With new owners in place and an immediate top-flight return looking increasingly likely, United are expected to pursue more proven options should they regain their place among English football’s elite.
But Wilder’s interest in Slater, as he pieced together a squad capable of challenging for promotion, is a reminder of how highly regarded the Sheffield born player is within coaching circles.
Aged 25, Slater has made 40 appearances for City this season, scoring once in the process.
