How Long Does a 9-Hole Round of Golf Take?

Golf courses typically come in two formats: 9 holes and 18 holes. The 18-hole course is more common, but many courses offer the option to play only 9 holes. This shorter option appeals to people with less time or those just learning the game. On average, playing 9 holes is significantly quicker than a full 18-hole round.

The average time to complete 9 holes of golf is about 1.5 to 2 hours. However, this is just a general estimate. Multiple elements come into play, which can either increase or decrease the time required.

Beginners usually take longer than experienced golfers. Those new to golf may take more time on each hole as they adjust to the swing, stance, and other mechanics of the game.

If you walk the course, your game will generally take longer than if you use a golf cart. Walking 9 holes may add 15 to 30 minutes to your play time, depending on the course layout.

Playing solo or with just one partner will generally be faster than playing in a group of three or four. Larger groups typically take longer as each player has their turn for every shot, extending the overall play time.

Some courses are designed with more complex layouts and obstacles. Tougher courses will naturally add a few minutes to each hole. Some courses also have specific pace of play policies.

Additionally, weather conditions, such as wind or rain, may slow play.

British speed golf champion Luke Willett broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest nine holes of golf in 2023, completing it in just 20 minutes and 12.47 seconds.

How Long Does a 9-Hole Round of Mini-Golf Take?

Similar factors, such as group size, can influence the duration of a 9-hole round of mini-golf as can influence a 9-hole round of golf.

However, mini-golf is played significantly more quickly than golf due to being played over a much smaller course.

As a result, a 9-hole round of mini-golf can comfortably be played in 15-30 minutes.

A solo player may be more likely to finish in 15 minutes, while a group of four mini golf players would be more likely to take around 30 to play.
