Top 10 Polish UFC Fighters: Champions, Rising Stars and Legends

Despite Poland being the home of one of the greatest female fighters ever in Joanna Jedrzejczyk, there has only ever been one male Polish UFC champion, and that's Jan Blachowicz.

The UFC has hosted many Polish fighters throughout its three-decade long history. But, whilst there have been several fighters, the actual quality of Polish fighters has been quite scarce, even though Poland has produced one of the greatest female fighters of all time.

Here is our list of the top ten best Polish UFC fighters…

DID YOU KNOW?

Jan Blachowicz became the first, and only, male Polish UFC champion in history when he defeated Dominick Reyes for the vacant light-heavyweight title at UFC 253.

10. Lukasz Sajewski

Lukasz Sajewski only spent a year in the UFC, between 2015 and 2016, in which he racked up three defeats in the lightweight division. Despite his defeats, at least one of his losses came against a world class fighter in the form of Gilbert Burns.

9. Damian Grabowski

Similar to Sajewski, Damian Grabowski only spent a year in the UFC, again, losing all three of his fights in the heavyweight division. Grabowski's UFC career is probably only remembered for the time Derrick Lewis tee'd off on him and stopped him via ground-and-pound.

8. Michal Oleksiejczuk

Michal Oleksiejczuk has been fighting in the UFC since 2017, holding a record of 7-7 in the company. The Polish fighter is known for his versatility because he has bounced between middleweight and light-heavyweight, and despite a recent loss to Shara Magomedov, 185-pounds seems to be the best division for him.

7. Bartosz Fabinski

Bartosz Fabinski, also known as “The Butcher”, spent six years in MMA's elite company, finishing his time in the UFC in 2021 having gone 3-3. The welterweight claimed three unanimous decision wins before suffering three straight first round submission losses before the company cut him.

6. Karolina Kowalkiewicz

Unlike the above fighters on this list, Karolina Kowalkiewicz actually fought for a UFC title, when she faced off against fellow Polish fighter Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the strawweight title. Kowalkiewicz is still in the UFC, having spent nine years on the roster, amassing a 9-9 record. Having lost her last two fights, at 39, it's safe to say she is coming towards the end of her career.

5. Krzysztof Jotko

Krzysztof Jotko had nine years in the UFC, and he's the first fighter on this list to have a winning record in the company with eleven wins and six losses. The middleweight and light-heavyweight fighter, Jotko is a well-respected UFC veteran, and a fighter known for his durability having been stopped just four times in 30 pro MMA bouts.

4. Marcin Tybura

Marcin Tybura has proven his ability in the UFC’ heavyweight division in his eight year stint in the promotion, going 12-8. Tybura has a solid blend of grappling ability and decent technical striking, without doing anything spectacular.

However, despite him being a top ten contender, it seems like every time he takes a step closer to the number one contender spot, he takes a step back, having been brutally stopped by both Tom Aspinall (the current UFC interim heavyweight champion) and Serghei Spivac.

3. Mateusz Gamrot

In his four years in the UFC, Mateusz Gamrot has claimed seven victories and just three losses. His three defeats have been by the hands of the judges, with two of them being split decisions.

Gamrot is an absolute nightmare for anybody at lightweight because of his gruelling grappling style which is intended to drain the gas tank of his opponent, and then land ground-and-pound strikes or look for a submission.

2. Jan Blachowicz

Despite his known saying “Polish Power”, Jan Blachowicz has only conjured up four legitimate KO or TKO wins across his ten-year UFC career, which has totalled 12 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.

Blachowicz claimed the vacant UFC light-heavyweight title in 2020 when he stopped Dominick Reyes in the second round. Then, he successfully defended his title against Israel Adesanya, welcoming the Nigerian up to 205-pounds in Adesanya's attempt to claim double champ status.

Blachowicz's title reign has a huge asterisk over it because firstly, he won a vacant belt, secondly, he defended it against a natural middleweight. Lastly, he lost the belt against a 42-year-old Glover Teixeira, who was on the very back end of his career.

1. Joanna Jedrzejczyk

Joanna Jedrzejczyk isn't only the best Polish fighter of all time, in our opinion, she is also regarded as one of the best female fighters ever in general, particularly at strawweight.

Jedrzejczyk went 10-5 in her UFC career and her attractive fighting style is what brought more eyes to the female strawweight division. Jedrzejczyk had excellent Muay Thai skills and a really good volume of work.

Within a two-year span, Jedrzejczyk won the UFC strawweight belt in 2015 against Carla Esparza. Then, she would claim five successful title defences. Now, Jedrzejczyk is retired from MMA and she is considered an icon of female MMA.
