The defending champions, the Boston Celtics, will travel to face the Cleveland Cavaliers in their third meeting of the season, endeavouring to gain an advantage in the season series that is currently even, at 1-1. The Celtics are starting to move into the next gear, as they prepare for a long playoff run with hope of retaining their NBA title.

So far, they have cruised to a second-place rank on the Eastern Conference standings, and were it not for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Oklahoma City Thunder overshadowing them with their historical seasons, the Celtics would have been the best team in the NBA. They boast championship experience on their roster and have multiple weapons at their disposal, making them a matchup nightmare for many teams in the league.

On the other hand, the Cleveland Cavaliers are having a juggernaut of a season. This season they are among the best two teams in the NBA. They began the season on a roll and have put dominant performances on their way to an Eastern Conference, leading with a 37-9 record. The Cavaliers have seen a tremendous in-house player development within its roster, which has taken the NBA by shock. Although they have slowed down their earlier season dominance, they are still projected to be among the top three within their conference and are one of the favourites to lift the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy. In this matchup, Cleveland is expected to unleash an aggressive showdown that will be a wagering hotspot on online betting sites

Cleveland Cavalier: Current Form – WLLLW

  • Overall Record: 37-9
  • Home Record: 22-3
  • Away Record: 15-6

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a problem in the Eastern Conference and the entire NBA as a whole. They are equipped with one of the most dynamic NBA rosters that has demonstrated elite chemistry and maturity. After much speculation during the NBA offseason on whether to tear up the current roster and trade for another superstar, the Cavaliers decided to stick to their guns and roll it back.

They have been rewarded with massive player development to their young core, which has surprised many. They currently have no weakness, as they are blessed with size, length, depth, perimeter shooting, athleticism, elite ball handling and playmaking, elite perimeter and post defence – all that coupled up with supreme coaching.

Head Coach Kenny Atkinson has sorted out the chemistry issues that grappled the team from a season ago and has instilled a togetherness that has resulted in them playing selfless team basketball. This has enabled the Cavaliers to possess multiple weapons that take turns, scorching their opponents on any given night.

Donovan Mitchell is among the MVP candidates this season and has already been voted as a starter for the 2025 All-Star game. He is the leader of the franchise. Darius Garland has developed tremendously and found a way to exist next to Mitchell. Perhaps the biggest leap with the team has been made by Evan Mobley, who is finally living up to the Kevin Garnett comparisons that have often been anointed on him. Mobley has grown as a playmaker and is an elite two-way player in the league, where defence is continuously losing relevance. Jarrett Allen offers a unique post threat on both ends of the floor and the team's bench is among the best in the NBA.

The Cavaliers seem destined to face the Celtics in the postseason and this year’s regular season meetings have been like a nuclear testing field, offering closely contested clashes.

Key Players to Watch

  • Donovan Mitchell: Donovan Mitchell is the bonified superstar and leader of the team. The games he has failed to show up for have resulted in defeat. He is the team’s leading scorer and steals leader. A walking bucket every time he steps on the court; Mitchell has been voted as a starter in this season’s All-Star game.
  • Darius Garland: Darius Garland is the team’s assist leader with 6.8 assists. He is crucial for the Cavaliers’ success, as he offers playmaking ability and a scoring punch that is potent to the opposing teams. In their only loss to the Celtics this season, he had a tough time influencing the game. If he had gotten it on earlier on, the Cavaliers would have emerged victorious considering that they only lost the contest by a three-point differential.
  • Evan Mobley: Evan Mobley is one of the great success stories in the NBA. Mobley is finally living up to the enormous expectations instilled upon one, once drafted into the league. He is un-guardable from the Power forward position since he possesses size and length to go along with quick feet. He is the team’s leader in blocks and one of the best defensive big men in the NBA.

Cleveland Cavaliers Team News

Dean Wade is without a timetable for return and can likely be considered "more than day-to-day" due to a right knee sprain. Isaac Okoro is still recovering from a shoulder injury while Caris LeVert’s wrist injury will be assessed.

Boston Celtics: Current Form – LWLWW

  • Overall Record: 32-14
  • Home Record: 15-8
  • Away Record: 17-6

The Boston Celtics so far have had a strong season as they look to defend their NBA championship. However, it may go under the radar due to the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder taking much of the applause, given that they are currently the best teams in the league, based on their superior record.

As is the case with most championship teams, the Celtics have cruised through the regular season but many fans expect them to really turn it up in the playoffs. They are equipped with championship experience and a core of elite talent on their roster.

Jason Tatum is once again among the MVP conversations within the league, with Olympic benching guiding his motivation. Tatum leads the Celtics in points per game, steals, rebounds and assists and his partner in crime, Jaylen Brown, is also an x-factor capable of taking over games down the stretch. Kristaps Porziņģis is finally healthy after a lengthy layoff while veterans Al Horford and Jrue Holiday continue to offer timeless and unselfish play.

Derrick White is posting the best numbers of his career since joining the team, averaging 16.2 points a game and nearly five rebounds and assists.

The Celtics have recently lost five games that they were expected to easily dominate, and they will be looking to shore up on defence, as they seek to keep pace with the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers who are ready to dethrone them.

Both teams have claimed a victory a piece, and this third matchup in their four-game regular season series will be one of the most anticipated games of the season.

Key Players to Watch

  • Jason Tatum: Jason Tatum is a player on fire. One of the best players in the league, Tatum has taken his game a notch higher, improving his rebounding output, while becoming one of the league’s best two-players. His Olympic fiasco seems to have worked wonders as he is poised for another 1st Team all NBA if he keeps this trajectory up.
  • Jaylen Brown: Jaylen Brown is once again the X-factor for the Celtics. He finds ways to dominate even if his statistical averages don’t showcase. Brown is an elite defender and offers the Celtics another play route with his post and mid-rage if the threes aren’t falling.
  • Kristaps Porziņģis: Kristaps Porziņģis is finally back on the court after dealing with injuries and fitness issues since the beginning of the season. Porziņģis offers the Celtics size down low and makes the team’s play unpredictable, as he is a marksman from all scoring areas on the court.

Suggested Bets

  1. Cavaliers to Win: They have an impressive record and due to a home-court advantage, they are more bound to secure a win.

  2. Over 230.5 total points: Both teams have high average points per game, suggesting that this is a possible outcome. Moreover, the offences in both teams are well-equipped.

  3. Celtics to cover the spread: If the spread ranges within 5 points, the Celtics have better prospects of covering it.

Value Bets

  1. Donovan Mitchell – Over 25.5 points: As a consistent scorer, Mitchell averages 24.6 points per game. Therefore, he is capable of going off against the Celtics, scoring over 25 points.

  2. Jaylen Brown – Over 20 points: In his past games, Brown has been delivering at least 24.5 per game, hence, he is likely to surpass this mark in this game.

  3. First Half Total Points – Over 115: With a potent offence in both teams, we expect this to be a high-paced game, making this an achievable outcome.

Prediction: Cleveland to Win

While this game is expected to be tightly contested, Cleveland have a home-court advantage and a sufficiently skilled defence that gives the team a better chance to secure a win.
