How is the season so far for both teams?

Brooklyn Nets

  • Record: 21-39
  • Home Form: 9-20
  • Road Form: 12-19

At the time of scripting this preview, the Brooklyn Nets have lost four games in a row. This run-in form has seen them drop out of play-in contention for the time being and puts them off the back foot. The Nets desperately need to rediscover their form from earlier in the year to stand a chance of featuring in the post-season.

23-year-old Cam Thomas marked his return at the start of March after his two-month hiatus due to injuries. Thomas is the franchise’s best shooter, as the shooting guard is producing the best output of his career. He has featured in 20 games, started in 18, and is averaging 24.3 points per game, in addition to 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists. These numbers are all career highs.

The Brooklyn Nets traded for D’Angelo Russell for a second time ahead of the trade deadline, and the 29-year-old’s impact has seen an average of 13.8 points and 5.8 assists per game. These numbers have helped the Nets improve on their form, but he was ruled out for a previous game due to his ankle and has yet to feature in the last three games at the time of writing.

Charlotte Hornets

  • Record: 14-45
  • Home Form: 9-21
  • Road Form: 5-24

The Charlotte Hornets are 14th in the Eastern Conference and have the worst record in the league, alongside the Philadelphia 76ers. This form will see the franchise have a huge mountain to climb to try to get to the play-in, but a chance at the playoffs looks out of the question. Can the Hornets halt the Nets in this matchup?

LaMelo Ball is the organization’s leading scorer. At just 23 years of age, Ball is producing very impressive figures in all key areas. His averages of 26.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 7 assists per game make him one of the best talents in the NBA. Ball isn’t quite posting his number of assists and rebounds from previous seasons, but his shooting has improved and that has made a difference within the franchise.

It's not a surprise to see the Hornets in second last in the Conference because the team has suffered many injuries throughout the season. The player within the organization who has made the most appearances is Miles Bridges, who has featured in 45 games. Bridges has posted 19.9 points and 7.7 rebounds but is the stat leader in the franchise in the latter statistic.

Value Bets

  1. LaMelo Ball, Over 15 Points and Over 5 Assists: LaMelo Ball’s talent is obvious for the league to see, but considering his previous averages, and him recovering from ankle soreness, we expect him to post at least 15 points and over 5 assists. Ball is a top-tier player, but he must be fit and ready for this encounter, even though he could play limited minutes.

  2. Cam Thomas, Over 25 Points: Cam Thomas has played nine games against the Charlotte Hornets, but his averages don’t reflect his performances. He has played four games as a starter and has averaged 20 points or higher, where he has played every game, as the other five games he played very limited minutes. Based on these statistics, SportsBoom expect him to have a good performance.

Prediction: Brooklyn Nets to win

Despite both teams showcasing poor form, one team has to win. SportsBoom predicts the Brooklyn Nets to prevail. This win would see a clean sweep and we believe they will continue their winning streak, producing four wins in a row. The Hornets will try their utmost to cause a surprise win, but the Nets will be too strong and tough to manage.
