Head-to-Head Record

Historically this game has been a closely contested match. Both sides have faced off a total of 127 times throughout the years in the regular season, with the Brooklyn Nets winning on 69 occasions. The Charlotte Hornets have won 58 themselves.

Considering how close this fixture is, the Nets have had the upper hand in recent times though. The Nets have the edge thanks to winning seven of the last ten games, thanks largely to the four-win streak that occurred throughout the entire 2022/23 NBA season.

How is the season so far for both teams?

Brooklyn Nets

  • Record: 16-33
  • Home Form: 5-16
  • Road Form: 11-17

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference, sitting 12th in the league and are 3-7 from their previous ten games at the time of writing. Only three teams have equal or worse form, the Toronto Raptors, the Orlando Magic, and the Washington Wizards. To form any chance of a play-off place, their form must change dramatically within the next few weeks, but it is difficult to achieve based on the lack of offensive options.

Firstly, the Nets traded for D’Angelo Russell, who makes his return to the Barclays Centre for a second spell. He has played only ten games so far since returning after moving from the Los Angeles Lakers and is posting 14.9 points. He is showing his class in offensive transitions as he is posting his career-best averages in assists per game with 7.4.

However, despite the injury-ridden roster and the lack of depth, Cameron Johnson is posting a career-best of 19.4 points per game. The 28-year-old is producing significantly better numbers than in yesteryears, but his team-mates can’t produce anything close to this stat line. His main team-mate, Cam Thomas, is averaging 24.7 points but has only played in less than half the games he has due to injury troubles throughout the season.

Charlotte Hornets

  • Record: 12-24
  • Home Form: 8-18
  • Road Form: 4-16

The Charlotte Hornets are currently on a four-game spell without a victory at the time of writing but have won four games from their last ten. The roster is combating injuries at various points making things difficult for the team striving for a playoff place. This team will likely not make it, but they will look to close out the season with surprise wins against the better franchises.

23-year-old LaMelo Ball is producing incredible statistics despite the team’s position. The former first rounder is averaging 28.2 points per game, placing him as one of the best in the league. In addition, he is posting 7.3 assists and 5.3 rebounds, showcasing his impressive versatility. His stats aren’t quite up to scratch in those areas compared to previous seasons, but he is still a massive prospect within the roster.

Considering injuries have hindered the organization in their play-off ambitions, their next highest scorer is Brandon Miller. Miller will be unavailable for the rest of the season due to undergoing surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament, but before this injury, he was posting 21.0 points per game in only his second year in the NBA. The Hornets will miss him as they close out their regular season.

Value Bets

  1. D’Angelo Russell: Over 15 Points and Over 5 Assists

Our first valued bets are focused on D’Angelo Russell. Russell is getting into the groove after trading to the Nets at the turn of the year and will be one to watch. Across his whole career, against the Hornets, he has averaged 18.9 points and six assists per game, highlighting his importance. Russell only played limited minutes in the previous matchup in January, but if he starts, he could be one to watch considering he posted 28 points in the game before.

  2. LaMelo Ball: Over 20 Points

Despite averaging a personal best record of 28 points+ per game this season, in his previous matches, Ball struggles against the Hornets. Ball is posting 17.7 points per game which isn’t up to the standard we expected, but this game should he be fit to start will be significant in trying to win for his team. He should click into gear and post at least 20 points in this game.

Prediction: Brooklyn Nets to win

This game should be an exciting matchup due to how urgent a win is for either organization, but we predict a Brooklyn Nets win. The Nets won the previous game earlier in the year and the roster is slowly but surely gelling together after Russell’s arrival, therefore a win looks on the cards.
