The Memphis Grizzlies are having a good season after last year’s catastrophic campaign that saw them become a lottery team. They have been among the top teams in the west, although their recent slump has seen them drop to the eighth spot on the log with a 46-32 record. The standings are brutal as three teams are tied with them on a similar record, but they all have a boast of the tiebreaker since they were victorious in their seasonal series matchups.

On the other hand, the Dallas Mavericks are the unluckiest team in the NBA. They are struggling with serious injuries to their star players. However, Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II are back from injury, and the roster is taking shape. The team has refused to tank and become a lottery team. They are in tenth position on the standings with a record of 38-41, which is good enough for a play-in spot, considering that the chasing Phoenix Suns have failed to pile more pressure in their pursuit of making the playoffs.

Memphis Grizzlies: Current Form – LLLWL

  • Overall Record: 46-32
  • Home Record: 25-14
  • Away Record: 21-18

The Memphis Grizzlies have had a good and competitive season so far. Their recent drop in form has seen them move from second to eighth position on the log, but a lot may happen in the closing week that will affect the final standings.

Despite the Grizzlies being inexperienced and dealing with injury concerns, they have still managed to be one of the best offensive teams in the league, with an offensive rating of 117.1. The team has been putting on good performances with a hard-nosed basketball brand as well as an electrifying showcase on a nightly basis.

One challenge, though, is their dismal record in clutch situations, resulting in losses in games they could have won. If they are to make the playoffs as an automatic team, they will need to address this, as they will suffer a quick first-round exit.

Key Players to Watch

  • Ja Morant: Ja Morant is having one of the quietest seasons of his young career. After dealing with injuries and league suspensions, Morant seems to have matured, as he is finally living up to the “face of the league” hype that was placed on him. He leads the team in scoring and assists with 22.9 points and 7.3 assists, respectively.
  • Jaren Jackson Jr.: Jaren Jackson Jr. is having an All-NBA season. He is the second-leading scorer on the team with 22.3 points per game and averages a team-high 1.6 blocks per game. Jackson is a dual threat in the perimeter and paint and can wreak havoc if not properly defended.
  • Desmond Bane: Desmond Bane has massively improved as a playmaker this season. He is the team’s second assist leader with 5.4 assists per game while also being the third-leading scorer with 19.0 points. His defense has also gone to the next level, and he is now viewed as a two-way player.

Memphis Grizzlies Team News

Brandon Clarke has been diagnosed with a high-grade PCL sprain in his right knee and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

Zyon Pullin will also be out due to a knee injury, and Vince Williams Jr. may be absent due to illness.

Dallas Mavericks: Current Form – LLWLW

  • Overall Record: 38-41
  • Home Record: 21-17
  • Away Record: 17-24

To state that the Dallas Mavericks haven’t lived up to the billing so far this season would be an understatement. Much was expected from the team after making it to the NBA Finals last season, coupled with one of the best offseason roster shakeups. However, things took a whirlwind turn, and the franchise is trying to recover from a string of major injuries to its core players and turmoil, both internally and externally.

The front office, led by general manager Nico Harrison, has been public enemy number one due to their decision to cut ties with their franchise superstar Luka Dončić. As it stands, the Lakers won the deal since it has catapulted them to third place in the Western Conference standings.

On paper, the Mavericks boast one of the most impressive starting units capable of dominating on both ends of the floor. However, they will not be able to take the court together as a unit this season because of injuries.

Anthony Davis is back from his adductor strain that ruled him out for weeks, while Dereck Lively II made his return after a three-month injury absence. Daniel Gafford is also available after facing time on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The team is still one of the most balanced, and although Irving won’t be available for the play-in game, they can cause major upsets as they boast championship experience, youth, and athleticism.

If they make it to the playoffs, anything is possible as the West is one big unknown quagmire, and a good matchup is all it takes for one team to build momentum and go on a rampaging run.

Key Players to Watch

  • Anthony Davis: Anthony Davis was having one of his best seasons in the NBA before being traded from the Lakers. The “Brow” is still one of the best two-way defensive big men in the league and can dominate with ease whenever he deems fit.
  • Klay Thompson: Klay Thompson has struggled in some games this season, but as it stands, he is the Maverick’s second-best player among those available. Klay is still one of the best shooters in the NBA, and he will be relied on to carry the offensive burden despite averaging 14.2 points per game.
  • Naji Marshall: Naji Marshall’s play has been consistent despite being in and out of the starting lineup as a replacement due to injuries incurred by the starters. Marshall is a capable scorer and has carried the Mavs in various games this season. His heat-check scoring ability is a joy to watch.

Dallas Mavericks Team News

Kyrie Irving’s season is over after suffering an ACL injury. Jaden Hardy and Olivier-Maxence Prosper are also likely to miss this contest as they are dealing with respective ankle and right wrist injuries.

The Mavericks announced that Dante Exum has been diagnosed with a left hand fracture and will be re-evaluated in four weeks.

Predicted Lineups

Memphis Grizzlies Lineup

  • Point Guard: Ja Morant
  • Shooting Guard: Desmond Bane
  • Small Forward: Jaylen Wells
  • Power Forward: Jaren Jackson Jr.
  • Center: Zach Edey

Dallas Mavericks Lineup

  • Point Guard: Spencer Dinwiddie
  • Shooting Guard: Klay Thompson
  • Small Forward: P.J. Washington
  • Power Forward: Anthony Davis

Value Bets

  1. Jah Morant to Score Over 22.5 points – Morant is Memphis’ best player and despite struggling with niggling injuries this season, he has maintained an upward in his scoring output as Memphis battles for an automatic playoff spot. As the team’s leading scorer, he is expected to match this betting outcome.

  2. Anthony Davis to Score Over 20.5 Points –  Before suffering the injury that has put him down for the better part of the second phase of the season, Davis was and has always been an avid scorer. He is capable of erupting for a double-double, proving that he has the ability to hit this achievement.

Prediction: Memphis Grizzlies to Win

The Grizzles will be enjoying a home-court advantage, and they are desperate to grab an automatic playoff spot. On the other hand, the Mavericks are only fighting for a play-in spot hence, they might not be so enthusiastic for a win in this game, giving the Grizzlies an upper hand.
