How is the season so far for both teams?

Boston Celtics

  • Record: 40-16
  • Home Form: 17-10
  • Road Form: 23-6

At the time of writing, the Boston Celtics have recorded four wins in a row and are showcasing impressive form. The defending NBA champions are the second seed in the East and have recorded six defeats on the road. This record sees them as the best in the entire league. At home, however, the organization has struggled in contrast to teams surrounding them in their Conference, losing ten of the 27 games played in Boston.

Shooting forward Jayson Tatum is the Celtics’ Most Valuable Player. He is only 26 but is playing at an incredible level on all sides of the court. This season he is averaging 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, making him the franchise leader in the three key areas. Tatum will no doubt be their opponent’s number one threat for this encounter. He is a mammoth figure within the dressing room and on the court.

Jaylen Brown is the roster’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging a steady 22.9 points. Brown’s numbers may be down from his previous four years, but it isn’t a stat line the franchise will be too concerned about. The 28-year-old has recorded an average of 6 rebounds per game and 4.8 assists, replicating his career averages in and out of possession. His numbers in assists per game stand at a record high though, ensuring his teammates have the best opportunities at scoring in the paint.

Denver Nuggets

  • Record: 37-19
  • Home Form: 20-8
  • Road Form: 17-11

At the time of writing this preview, the Denver Nuggets are displaying incredible form in the Western Conference. Denver has won nine games in a row, placing them on the same record as the second seed the Memphis Grizzlies as the organization looks to maximise their playoff chances. The Nuggets look difficult to stop as they have found their feet at the most important time of the season.

At the forefront of this impressive display in form, it’s safe to say this organization wouldn’t be near the top seed if it wasn’t for Nikola Jokic. The Serbian star, who has now turned 30, is propping up numbers that have never been seen in the NBA before. Jokic is the team leader in points, rebounds, assists and steals per game, but what’s more impressive is the numbers itself. He is posting 29.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists and 1.8 steals, placing him in the three in the NBA in each area.

Aside from Jokic, their best scorer is Canadian star Jamal Murray. The point guard has normally been a very reliable player but this season it took him a lot longer to settle in, but is now propping up 21.3 points per game, the highest of his career. Murray has seen a slight regression in assists and rebounds, though, averaging 6.1 and 3.9, respectively. The 27-year-old will look to keep the momentum going before the playoffs commence.

Value Bets

  1. Jayson Tatum, Over 20 Points and Over 5 Rebounds and Over 5 Assists: If Jayson Tatum is selected to play, considering the back-to-back games the Celtics must face, he will be a significant asset for this match. He has a career average of 21.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists; therefore, we predict that he will replicate this statistical performance. The Celtics need to win this game in their quest for the number one seed, making Tatum vital in achieving this goal.

  2. Donovan Mitchell, Over 20 Points and Over 10 Rebounds: SportsBoom expects Nikola Jokic to record an important double-double. In his last ten games, the Serbian has completed this feat on seven occasions, which matches his career-long stats against the organization. Jokic has posted 22.8 points and 10.5 rebounds across 15 meetings, highlighting his significance within the roster when they take on Boston.

Prediction: Boston Celtics to win

The Boston Celtics should win this game despite the Denver Nuggets recording impressive form. This should be the game where the Nuggets’ win streak ends, but that is due to the Celtics and their roster showing impressive depth. The Celtics winning will provide the team immense confidence heading into the final quarter of the regular season.
