Head-to-Head Record

The Phoenix Suns host the Denver Nuggets for the second time this season after hosting the last game on Christmas Day, where the Suns prevailed. The overall record historically favours the Suns with them winning 105 of the 194 regular season matches, whereas the Nuggets have won slightly less with 89.

The Suns also have the upper hand in recent times, winning three of their last five games but also five of their last seven. Phoenix will be looking to win three on the spin, but considering how closely contested this fixture is, the Nuggets last completed this feat in October 2021.

How is the season so far for both teams?

Phoenix Suns

  • Record: 25-23
  • Home Form: 15-9
  • Road Form: 10-14

After going above .500 for the first time in a while, the Phoenix Suns sit as the number ninth seed in the Western Conference. The division is incredibly close-knit and while the team have upped the ante in form in recent weeks, there is still work to be done for their quest of securing a playoff space. Can the Suns rise to the occasion for the game against the fourth seed, the Denver Nuggets?

NBA-seasoned veteran Kevin Durant is still producing career averages at the age of 36. Durant is averaging 26.9 points per game, statistics that almost match his previous season with the Suns. Durant’s average of 4.1 assists per game shows he isn’t quite up to scratch in that department compared to previous years, but he is without a doubt the franchise’s biggest name.

In addition to Durant, don’t forget that the Suns have Devin Booker on their roster too. The 28-year-old is posting 25.9 points per game, which places him eighth inside the NBA. The Suns’ leading two scorers are in the high echelons in the league stat charts, showcasing their offensive threat. Booker isn’t quite matching previous seasons but is still one of their most valuable players.

Denver Nuggets

  • Record: 30-19
  • Home Form: 14-8
  • Road Form: 16-11

The Denver Nuggets sit as the fourth seed in the Western Conference as they try and formulate a strong seeding for the playoffs in a few months. The Nuggets are 2.5 games behind the Houston Rockets and 3 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies, highlighting how close the league is this season. The Nuggets need to keep an eye on teams behind them, however, as any downturn in form could see the Colorado team fall behind.

Without second thoughts the Nuggets have arguably the greatest player in the league in their team, Nikola Jokic. Jokic is one of the favourites to win the Most Valuable Player award and is one of the biggest threats in the entire NBA right now. He is averaging 29.6 points, 12.8 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game all season, taking his overall game to a whole new level. In this stat line, he is in the top three across all three areas on the pitch and is a formidable opponent for this matchup.

Jamal Murray is the Nuggets’ second-best weapon with 20.4 points per game. It’s fair to say that it took him a while to showcase his talents this season but as the season has progressed, he is improving by the week. His average statistics of 20.4 points, 4 rebounds and 6.1 assists make him a threat for any team in defense. This is the fourth consecutive year when he has posted this, underlining his importance to the team.

Value Bets

  1. Devin Booker: Over 20 Points and Over 5 Assists

Devin Booker’s posting an average of 21.2 points and 5 assists across 25 separate appearances throughout his career against the Nuggets, meaning he could be one to watch for this game. Our first valued bet thinks he will eclipse over 20 points for the first time in three meetings, but he will be of use to his teammates as he has assisted over five times six times in his last eight meetings.

  2. Nikola Jokic: Over 25 Points and Over 8 Rebounds and Over 8 Assists

Nikola Jokic’s form indicates he could be unguardable for this game considering in his last five games he is averaging 25 points, 9.4 rebounds and 8 assists. Jokic’s scoring is inevitable, but in these past meetings, he normally focused on either assisting or rebounding. In this game, however, we predict him to be on course to produce the goods in all three main areas.

Prediction: Denver Nuggets to win

Considering both teams won one game apiece across the festive period, this game should be a very close one to call. SportsBoom concludes a win for the Denver Nuggets. This team is in a better position in the league right now and will see this as an important fixture which could define their next form for the next few weeks. The Suns have produced the goods three out of the last five games in the head-to-head, but the Nuggets will prevail in this one.
