How is the season so far for both teams?

New York Knicks

  • Record: 37-20
  • Home Form: 20-10
  • Road Form: 17-10

At time of writing, the New York Knicks have lost two games in a row, against the first and second seeds in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Boston Celtics, back-to-back. Despite this, the organization are a distant third seed, but these defeats will be a wake-up call that they need to up their game against these sorts of competitors.

For the most part, the pairing of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns has been the reason why the Knicks are performing well this season. Brunson is averaging 26 points per game, whereas Towns is averaging 24.8 himself. These numbers are mightily impressive, as the Knicks roster has the ninth and 14th leading shooters in the league.

In addition, these two help each other in other areas. Brunson is eighth in the NBA in the assists department, averaging 7.4 per game. In contrast, Towns has positioned himself as one of the best centers in the league, as his average of 13.5 rebounds places him second overall.

Golden State Warriors

  • Record: 31-27
  • Home Form: 17-13
  • Road Form: 14-14

The Golden State Warriors were once in a precarious situation, but since the trade deadline and the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, the franchise’s season has turned on its head. Since Butler joined, the organization are 6-1 – impressive form. The Warriors have the best form in the West with four victories in a row and are now the eighth seed, with the expectation of finishing in the playoffs after the regular season.

Butler’s impact has been monumental as the franchise has improved in all areas on the court, from points per game to defensive work and in transitions. Butler’s seven games so far have seen him average 18 points per game, in addition to 5.4 assists and 6 rebounds – numbers that slot him in as the second highest scorer in the team.

Now that he’s finally got an All-Star pro in his time, Stephen Curry is starting to thrive once again. He’s had a difficult season due to the Warriors being unable to find a superstar to compliment his game, until now. Curry has posted 20 or more points in seven of his last ten games, taking his seasonal average to 23.3 points per game. Curry also has the highest number of assists too, averaging 6.1 per game.

Value Bets

  1. Karl Anthony Towns, Over 20 Points and Over 10 Rebounds: Our first valued bet predicts Karl-Anthony Towns to post a double-double. This will be his first game in New York Knicks gear against the Golden State Warriors, but he will no doubt be a key feature for this match. His last ten games have seen 24.4 points, and 10.2 rebounds compiled, and the center has picked up seven double-doubles in ten games.

  2. Stephen Curry, Over 25 Points and Over 5 Assists and Over 5 Rebounds: Across his whole career, Stephen Curry has been up against the New York Knicks 25 times and has an impressive stat line of 25.7 points, 5.9 assists and 5.5 rebounds. Given his recent form, SportsBoom predicts the prolific shooter to be on song once again. Let’s not forget he loves Madison Square Garden; it was the venue where he set the record for the most three-point shots in NBA history.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors to win

SportsBoom predicts the Golden State Warriors to prevail. This matchup should be a close game, but the Warriors will win. It is hard to choose a team based on how close it is in the head-to-head overall, but the Warriors’ form indicates that they are in red-hot form now. It will be a tough game, but if a win is pulled off, it will be a statement victory for the San Francisco-based side.
