How is the season so far for both teams?

Phoenix Suns

  • Record: 35-41
  • Home Form:  23-15
  • Road Form:12-26

The Phoenix Suns are currently on the brink of missing out on the final play-in position to book themselves into the postseason. The organization have lost four in a row and is 5-5 in their last ten games, but this drop in form could consequently place them out of contention altogether. At the time of writing, the franchise needs to find form fast if they want to try and have a deep run into the postseason.

36-year-old Kevin Durant has been the standout performer for the organization throughout the season. Placed sixth in the NBA in points per game with 26.6; his longevity and consistency remain ever-present for the struggling franchise. Durant is nursing a minor ankle injury but likely will return to action against his old team; therefore, his presence will bolster the Suns’ opportunities to win, given their worrying state of form.

In addition to optimal shooter Durant, don’t forget the Suns' shooting guard Devin Booker. Booker has played and started the most games this season for the organization, playing 70 games from a possible 76, and is averaging impressive numbers once again. His average of 25.5 points greatly strengthens the roster’s offensive regime, in addition to averaging 7.1 assists per game. These place him ninth overall in the league in both departments.

Golden State Warriors

  • Record: 44-31
  • Home Form:  23-14
  • Road Form: 21-17

The Golden State Warriors are one of the best teams in the league as of late, having changed their season around completely following the February trade deadline. Not only are the Warriors on a three-game winning streak, but they are also 7-3 in their last ten games and have established themselves as a serious threat in the postseason, should they make it. With seven games to go, including the game against the Suns coming up, every game is crucial to the franchise.

The Warriors certainly wouldn’t be where they are now without the trade acquisition of Jimmy Butler. Butler joined the San Francisco-based team in a last-minute trade from the Miami Heat in February and is a key player for the side. He is averaging 17.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 6.2 assists. Though these numbers may appear slightly lacklustre, his presence has elevated the team to greater heights.

Stephen Curry continues to show the world his capabilities with his impressive shooting and movement on the ball. Since Butler joined, Curry has produced much better performances due to receiving a reduced workload, which has allowed him to thrive. The 37-year-old is averaging 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.

Value Bets

  1. Kevin Durant: Over 20 Points and Over 5 Rebounds

Kevin Durant’s statistics against the Warriors from the last three years see him average 24 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Therefore, we predict a safe bet of over 20 points and over 5 rebounds. Durant should play in this one despite his minor injury, and should he feature, he will be up to speed from the sound of the first buzzer.

  2. Stephen Curry: Over 20 Points and Over 5 Assists

Stephen Curry always elevates his game against the Suns on all sides of the court. He only averaged 14 points in his last game, but before that minor blip, he regularly averaged over 20 points and 5 assists. We expect him to match this figure for this encounter, and with earning a playoff place in their grasp, you can guarantee the showman will have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors to Win

SportsBoom concludes the Golden State Warriors will prevail in this one. The organization may have lost three of their last five games against the Phoenix Suns, but the dangerous form they have established should make them a big favourite. It will be no easy task, but the Warriors should complete the task at hand.
