How is the season so far for both teams?

The San Antonio Spurs are contesting for the last play-in spot in the Western Conference but could be out of contention due to the form of the teams surrounding them. The organization were previously higher up the rankings but due to Victor Wembanayama suffering a season-ending injury due to blood clots, it seems the franchise is opting to tank for the remainder of the season.

De’Aaron Fox joined the franchise before the February deadline closure, having joined the side from the Sacramento Kings. Fox played 17 games in a Spurs jersey and averaged only 19.7 points per game, well below his averages from previous seasons. His average numbers of 6.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds saw him be a big use on both sides of the ball, but Fox won’t play for the rest of the season due to a season-ending injury to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie finger.

In contrast to the Spurs’ injury troubles, point guard veteran Chris Paul has played in every single game this season at the time of crafting together this preview. Paul is 39 years of age and showing no signs of stopping, averaging 7.8 assists per game, and is looking in better shape for the first time in multiple years.

Currently occupying the final play-off spot in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors are in strong form in recent weeks. The franchise have turned their season around and are eyeing up a higher seed finish in the West. The franchise looks set to end the season above .500 both at home matches and on the road, which looked almost impossible only a few months ago as they were contesting in the play-in positions.

The Warriors wouldn’t be where they are now without the trade acquisition of Jimmy Butler. Butler joined the Bay Area team from the Miami Heat in February and has made massive strides since joining the team. He is averaging 17.2 points, 6.4 assists and 6.2 rebounds, but his overall presence has seen the whole roster improve as a result. Should the Warriors seal their place, Butler will be a big threat in the off-season.

Having featured in 60 of the 70 games so far, Stephen Curry once again is displaying his magic. The newly turned 37-year-old has raised his game further since Butler joined, averaging 24.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6 assists per game. It is clear that Curry isn’t quite on the same level as in previous years, but the whole league knows of his qualities, and he is a big-game player when needed. Curry’s output betters his previous season, just not in points per game.

Value Bets

  1. Chris Paul: Over 10 Points and Over 8 Assists

Chris Paul is set to go up against his former team and will no doubt be a key player for the Spurs. His impressive athleticism is an attribute that deserves the utmost credit, and we expect him to shoot at least 10 points and provide 8 assists to his teammates. His last five games have seen him post at least 8 in his last five games; therefore, this is a logical prediction.

  2. Stephen Curry: Over 25 Points

Stephen Curry will no doubt play an important role in this game, having averaged 26 points in his last five games. In three of his last five meetings, Curry has averaged over 30 points per game, and we expect him to post at least 25 points. The point guard will be the one to watch from the Warriors' roster.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors to win

SportsBoom concludes the Golden State Warriors will prevail in this one. Despite the San Antonio Spurs having a more favourable record overall in the head-to-head, the franchise lacks shooting power, considering their two best operators are out for the season. We predict the Warriors to win as a result.
