Head-to-Head Record

The historic, local rivalry of the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks has taken place since the first game back in 1976. Both organizations love to show off their best stuff against each other, and this game will mark the 218th regular-season game in the NBA.

The Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks have very similar records overall, with the latter winning 110 games. The Nets have 107 wins themselves, but, incredibly enough, the Knicks have won nine games in a row, meaning the franchise flipped the overall record on its head to favour them.

How is the season so far for both teams?

Brooklyn Nets

  • Record: 25-53
  • Home Form: 11-27
  • Road Form: 14-26

The Brooklyn Nets are in 12th place in the Eastern Conference after an injury-ridden campaign and multiple trade deals not going to plan. The franchise has no possible chance of securing a spot in the play-in or playoffs, meaning all the focus is on the new season later this calendar year. But the big talking point is, can they put on a show for their fans against their local rivals to close out the season?

Despite his season-ending injury occurring nearly a month ago, Cam Thomas was the best operator, offensively speaking. The 23-year-old averaged 24 points per game, a new personal best, but he only featured in 25 games and played in 23 of them. It’s a clear sign that if he was fit all year, he’d have made a big difference to the franchise’s final seeding.

After joining mid-season from the Los Angeles Lakers and playing for the franchise for a second time, D’Angelo Russell has offered his assistance to the wider offense. He is averaging 12.9 points per game, in addition to 5.6 assists, providing importance in most attacking transitions. The 29-year-old will be a key player heading into the next season.

New York Knicks

  • Record: 50-28
  • Home Form: 27-12
  • Road Form: 23-16

It is still unclear the exact position the New York Knicks will finish, but it can be assumed the franchise will finish as the third seed. The Knicks are an incredibly strong team, and it shows as they are one of the best teams in the league in recent form, winning seven of their last ten games and having lost only 12 games at home. The Knicks will be a dangerous threat not only in this game but in the postseason too.

Firstly, this team simply wouldn’t be as competitive if Jalen Brunson wasn’t on the team. Brunson’s offensive game is one of the best in the entire league, boasting an impressive 26.1 points and 7.4 assists per game, which places him seventh and eighth in the entire league in both departments. Brunson’s assists this season see him improving year by year, too.

In addition to Brunson, another key shooter is Karl-Anthony Towns. This is his first year on the East Coast, and it’s clear a move away from his previous team did him the world of good. Averaging an impressive 24.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game, he is 13th in scoring and second in rebounding, both departments which makes him a lethal combination in the league.

Value Bets

  1. D’Angelo Russell: Over 10 Points and Over 5 Assists

Our limited options for this valued bet mean we focus our attention on D’Angelo Russell. Across 17 games, Russell has averaged 13.6 points and 5 assists, meaning we think he will replicate these figures in the final NBA game of the season. Russell’s points are higher in recent fixtures, but we think this stat line is a safe bet.

  2. Karl-Anthony Towns: Over 25 Points and Over 10 Rebounds

Karl-Anthony Towns loves playing the Brooklyn Nets, posting 11 double-doubles in 16 separate appearances against the organization. Not only are these remarkable figures, but they highlight why we have chosen him as a valued bet because of his reliability on both sides of the court. We believe he will post another double-double, consisting of at least 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Prediction: New York Knicks to Win

Unsurprisingly, we have selected the New York Knicks to prevail in this encounter. The overall roster is in a healthier state, and their nine-game wins in a row show how much more depth of quality the side has over the Brooklyn Nets.
